Earlier today I spent a few minutes explaining to my 7yr old that even though the words might be the same, there is a world of difference between offering unsolicited criticism after being given something (served a meal, for instance) or offering criticism after someone ASKS you to give them your opinion because they need that information.

"grumpy" and "dishonest" aren't synonyms, so your argument that you're not lying doesn't address what people are trying to tell you.

If I visited my mother in law with my girlfriend .... she would not be asking about the tie ... she would be asking where her daughter is.
