Try right clicking eve and running as admin. Most problems related to vista are UAC/Run as admin problems and with there being a patch or two it might need the elevated rights.....

Try reinstalling DirectX using the DXSETUP.exe in the 'bin\DirectX' subdirectory of the client installation.

Also, make sure that you are using a local Windows user profile. Server stored profiles (as in use in some network situations) or the profile being stored on a network location by other means can also result in this behavior.

Wait, you installed Windows after Eve Online? How did you do that lol?

Seriously, though, on windows, there can be hard drive sleep mode that turns itself on if nor disabled and if it goes into sleep mode while youre downloading, you can get corrupted files (parts of them missing).

Wait, if that was the case you would'nt be able to install the game in the first place as the missing file parts would be detected.

Is there any other thing thats happenning? How is your windows set up? etc? Some other apps can interfere with Eve, we never know.

I am having this exact problem, however on XP. Spontaniously started doing this with no changes and no other programs installed in the mean time. Tried everything in this thread.

Tried to run as admin, however I only have one profile so I assume that means I can only ever be admin, if that makes sense?

...today was my one day off over the holidays to play eve :'''(
