I wish I could post the facepalm image. You just admitted that "most ships are capable of tanking enough to fulfill their role," but you're here asking for more tank. It's ridiculous.

And it's not that they can just change their resistance profile, it's that adding resistances is doing EXACTLY what you want by it's nature. And if you have any kind of active tank, you can overheat to grant you temporary EHP.

There is, simply, no empty design space that your idea fullfills.
