Pros: There's always a fight to be had sometimes less than a jump away. Always something to do.
Cons: someone is always crying about something!!

That's only a con depending on your skill points and wealth. Faction warfare is great because even new players can get in on it and have reasonable expectations of not coming across a ship so out of their class they have no hope of winning.
