If I flat out bought a new account through steam does this completely screw me over for the various new player offers via buddy accounts? I'd be willing to work something out with anyone who wants to claim credit for an invite if possible.

Accounts bought through Steam are not a valid method of subscribing a buddy invite account. (Source)

The way the buddy invite system works is to reward the creation of new accounts. So the new account must be made through the buddy invite link.

I don't even think plex works with the buddy system rewards either, it has to be not part of any discount sale or steam or packs codes etc but actually signing up for a subscription for the "buddy" to get the rewards.

At least that is what I was told.
