Is it just me, or do the new icons and color schemes suck?

I'm not going to make any comment on the icons - I'm not able to pick them out immediately and have to wait for the tooltip to work out what it is (which takes a while because otherwise the tooltip on my damage control makes it impossible to activate any other module... except that even with the tooltip delay set long the damage control tooltip still makes it impossible to activate other modules!)
However I'll probably learn the new icons as quickly as I learned the old ones - it's a shame they didn't share common imagary to make the transition easier but that's a minor thing.

The colour schemes and the new window design are terrible however.

And the blurry space behind windows which doesn't actually give you any information actually makes me feel like I have less screen real-estate to work with than before - which given that I couldn't see my own ship most of the time because of the various windows I feel I need open (particularly since they removed the snap distance option which means I need to space windows out even more to avoid having them snap to each other) is an impressive achievement!

have to say, ... this whole translucent thing ... have they forgotten we had the 'pin' tool that made the windows truly translucent? That's been around since beta. Not sure why they decided to 'improve' something up to something that was already there ...

yes, the new color schemes suck, worse still, the new icons suck, and there is no way to get back the old ones. I noticed how bad they were when I first saw them on the Test Server. No one at CCP cared about the feedback from the test server - or maybe they didn't even ask. Open your mouths, swallow CCP crap. Enjoy!!

I read a lot of complaints when it was on Sisi, but logging in yesterday I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. It's almost exactly the same UI. Seriously people, it's just reskinned and the random pain-in-the-*ss lag to the right click menu's is gone.

Let me say that again: That terrible glitch where you are flying through a the sub-menus of a right-click menu and click on something but it clicks the thing above it because it decided to lag at that inopportune moment... is gone. GONE!

But i guess that's not as important as colored icons. Let's not forget that we've been staring at these same old icons since forever, it's not like they were any more obvious, we've just memorized the sh*t out of them. I can't even tell you how many times I've confused the blob of color which is the Items button for the blob of color that is the Market button. When you are in a hurry, looking for something, the monochrome icons will be faster. Just give it 5 minutes to get used to them.

If you have complaints about transparency and things like that make sure you report those issues. They will fix stuff like that. But they're not going to revert this just to get the old look back.

I don't want old images-icons. Fully-fledged images scaled to minuscule dimensions are bad as icons. New ones are practical, logograms easier to understand and distinguish after few looks.

The new UI does suck.

I remember laughing out loud when they announced they were revamping the UI to move it away from looking like an operating system, yet all they seem to have accomplished is move from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 Tile World. Only, it's monochrome.

Icons need color; just the shape is insufficient for easily identifying what you're clicking on, and by the way CCP, "shape recognition" is not a thing.

And the preset color schemes suck. Almost all of them have black or gray as the background (secondary) color, and they're really dark. Windows are still square boxes, and there's no improvement to the capabilities of the client to actually calculate something for you.

And, finally, ROFL at physically based rendering... you have to increase the luminosity of the background nebulas to have enough light? Really?!? If the "conservation of energy" thing results in everything being dark, then fix the stupid formula to inject enough light to make the ships visible, while keeping the nebulas as they were.

CCP, you guys put in so much work but the results look like ****.

Have to disagree with most of the folks here.

I don't miss the Windows 95 icons at all and I'm glad they're gone. I can easily recognize the new icons but it could be that it comes from having to visually scan legal documents all day long.

And the Neocom being transparent? Sure it's a bug but why is that even a problem? The Neocom isn't even a window..

And to the person yelling "Dark Opaque".. I've seen you regularly post in the SiSi forums and I'm surprised you haven't figured out how to turn off blur and transparency yet.

Interesting in theory, however, I can search through the color icons with my peripheral vision, the monochrome requires me to move my eyes to the bar, and THEN search.
it will never be faster then knowing where I'm headed BEFORE moving my eyes over.

Seriously, Cribba's suggestion fixes most of my problems with the UI, can I get a tickbox to use the colors he posted on the icons?

My second problem is with the transparency, the old transparency was better then this, because it wasn't an "all or nothing" transparency, like this one.
I used to have everything I needed solid, and everything else fully transparent,
the slider now is more of a "how difficult should things be to see?" slider.
There really badly need to be TWO transparency sliders(like there used to be), not just one.

I think the new UI looks great. Bit disappointed about the colour customisation, having only a few fixed palettes to choose from. Other than that look as a developer I can tell you that nomatter how good you make your UI look, people won't like it because it's changed.

After a few weeks they get used to the new one and forget they ever complained. Indeed if you then went back to the old one they'd hate it.

It's just a fact of life.

I think enough people have posted instructions as to how to get back to your old opaque interface.

Not the case here. Nothing wrong with good change, but this was a series of backwards steps. For example the old icons weren't great but you had 2 ways to learn how to distinguish them (shape AND color), now it's just shape. On smaller screens it sucks because usually people size icons on the neo come to not take up much screen real estate, doing that now means a lot of squinting because you don't have different colors to act as a hint.

I hope so too. I don't need the old icons back, just some color would make the process go much much faster.

I really hate the new icons. The old icons were meaningful and visually attractive. The new icons are meaningful, but visually SUCK! No color, and no 3D effect. I suppose I can get used to them, but EVE surely uglified itself in this update.

The same for the color schemes. The color just distract from the menus where they appear. The UI is really ugly now. I will continue to use them, but they are not ascetically pleasing. This update was a step backwards for the UI.

If you want quick access then learn keyboard shortcuts. Hunting and pecking for color+shape can't be all that faster than looking for a shape. Neither meets any requirements of being time critical, compared to a keyboard shortcut.

I was thinking more about the windowing than the icons. The icons definitely need colour cues though.

This is one thing that needs mentioning, immediately, I needed to size up my neo, to near it's maximum possible, to have any chance of using it.
The way it was, I had it in its minimum setting, and felt even that was wasting space on my monitor, because the colors gave my everything I needed..
