Is it just me, or do the new icons and color schemes suck?

I really hate the new icons. The old icons were meaningful and visually attractive. The new icons are meaningful, but visually SUCK! No color, and no 3D effect. I suppose I can get used to them, but EVE surely uglified itself in this update.

The same for the color schemes. The color just distract from the menus where they appear. The UI is really ugly now. I will continue to use them, but they are not ascetically pleasing. This update was a step backwards for the UI.

I kinda don't care either way with the icons. I feel like half the time I couldn't find what I was looking for anyways. now I mostly just use the hot keys for stuff.

menu colors, eh, again hardly notice them. plus if you play with the settings they kinda seem to look the same as they used to.

I think they're too flat and simplified.

Now if they could make them faux-3D floating holographic glowing thingies, I'd be happy. They're just lacking dimension and awesome.

It's not just you. I'm not enjoying this UI at all, just like you say, I wish the icons have colors. That's how I spent the last 11 years identifying what I am opening, now I need one miss click to open the right function.

And tbh the neocom should NOT be transparent after I put transparency to zero.

No it isn't just you.The whole thing sucks.Or is a step or two backward in design. The UI windows are so indistinct.Having removed all the customisatiion from the interface, choosing a colour scheme I can put up wth, means windows have lost so much definition.

It's nice to see that CCP ignored virtually every bit of feedback that was given to them in the UI thread, and in fact did the exact opposite of what was requested by players.

Feels like maybe they're trying to test the waters for an iPad release or something. Hurr.

****. Don't even get me started on that.

Or the "okay grandpa, you need to take all the pills in the little paper cup" color presets.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

I like it. Probably cuz you all hate it!

Actually, if ccp fixed the transparency thing on windows that shouldn't be, and the mystery-buttons thing. The color choices are not that bad. Dark grey is good, but the Blood Raiders choice is demonic. And blur, definitely OFF.

Otherwise, the ship changes and the new rendering are really cool.
The proto-map will be purely awesome when tweaked! Best change in Rhea. Spend some time trying it out, well worth it!

Change is good...

CCP ignored all of the Sisi feedback on these crappy icons/menus, like usual. Don't expect them to fix it for another 6 months, at best.

yes, EVE is being treated like an operating system. the viewport--the part we see space out of--is being treated like a desktop. In normal games, there is a significant border around the screen to build a feeling of environment, with an enclosure such as a windshield or a themed frame around the edges. But putting us in first person would be pointless due to the RP of piloting ships from the inside of a pod. So I think the commitment to an open border is the right decision.

but.

the viewport is not very sacred, apparently, and I think that's the biggest problem, and the start of improving the interface. EVE is not an operating system, and it should be a top priority to kill the tables. Colloquially they're called windows, but windows is a microsoft term for the tables in its operating system. that's one indicator of how deeply we've come to accept the tables in EVE.

the worst news is this latest iteration is still stuck in the operating system / tables design strategy. imo, it lacks creativity, and is a -huge- waste of immersion and ergonomics.

I'm also guessing the icons were vectorized so they can magnify as you mouse over them, the way the icons do along the bottom of the screen in mac operating systems.

Ha ha ha, oh god no.

An operating system like design is great in games with a lot of data to communicate or elements to interact with.

have you seen my feedback post with ways to dismantle chat channels and reduce tables? There are alternatives.

this is one of those cases where you have to show people what they want before they know they want it. players, not just devs, are accepting of the UI because it's all they can imagine, and all they've known. but games are a type of program that should have unique, branded interfaces. we are still playing excel in space.

I like the design for the most part, but it seems theyve taken away the ability to customise the colours.

Although i never use the neocom i can see why people dont like it.
