To shiny ships after Rhea!

Hi all

Just my 2cents on the new expansion regarding the polished ships.

I know CCP want to make the game more good looking and that is awesome.
But the new ships are WAY to polished im affraid to take it out for a spin couse if the paint gets bumped its right
back to the repair bay.

Just a example: The dominix... holy crap it looks like a marble potato now..

CCP im all for the new and improved gfx improvements but turn down the polish PLEASE!

Yes, turn down the chrome on gallente ships pls.

Gallente polished them because they want people to see their own faces melting from up close.

Custom ship skins, character creator style "repaint". Bring it!

it was pass one so I'm not too worried about it, and pretty sure they said they needed a few more passes on stuff in the devblog.

in general I feel like amarr just looks great, caldari I don't see much of a change, gallente needs a polish pass (hopefully not litteraly, then again silver and green might be cool), and minmatar needs some work.


on the pirate ships, dunno how I feel about sansha. Angels look like they are flying plastic shells over spaceships. Mordus/SoE look good. bloods, don't really see a change. although the vindicator looked pretty cool and dark when it first hit sisi, now it looks kinda light and meh, I guess indifference is better than a bad paint job though.

Plastic is the word here i think

Some ships just look to plastic now CCP you need to take agood look on this and maybe change a few things

The nice black Vindicator has been ruined.Why would anyone think this ******* awful grey is an improvement.The only ship that looks better is the Brutix Navy.Its bad enough having pug ugly ships without making them worse.Ore ships are too bright.All my min ships are now an awful matt effect.Interesting though is the dull shiny ,it looks weird.Its not satin, gloss or matt.It is greyShips getting worse.

On a catsuit it wouldn't look bad, on a spaceship however...

Overall, I like the direction in which ship graphics are going, but there's need for a lot of adjustment at the moment. Amarr (golden and polished) and Minmatar Navy (subdued colors, but with better contrast than before) ships look especially good right now, but the others are too shiny (Gallente), too plastic (Caldari), or both.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Please tak a good look on the ships shiny exterior and turn it down a notch my eyes are hurting :)

The Gallente ships look amazing same with amarr and caldari.

But angel and minmatar now look like plastic. Just maybe need a slight texture update on them.

What CCP really needs now is an ability to make surfaces with different gloss.

For example, I feel that Khanid ships were better back when they were matte black & silver rather than silver & slightly darker silver like they are now.

I don't like serpentis reskin too.

Finally, Sansha ships need a lot of work. Plain grey eggs they are when you look from illuminated side isn't something I feel is very pleasing aesthetically, and it doesn't mix well with their texture.

Finally, I wish work on textures will continue.

That said, from tech PoV it's an improvement. Looking forward to Art team exploring all the potential EVE has now.

P.S. I mostly listed what I feel can be problematic of what I don't like. Compared to what I consider great it's really not much :)

Pretty sure this thread is redundant because they already acknowledged that they had to adjust a lot of ships...

After installing the new patch I changed the monitor setting to "Gaming".
Then lowered the brightness of my Monitor from former 80 down to 5.

Now it looks great.

Dear forum denizens:

I would recommend reading the PBR dev blog. It's not long. This project was frontloaded heavily - they changed the code to more accurately display materials and colors. This wasn't necessarily meant to make the ships prettier right now (although some ships did benefit greatly), it was meant to give CCP a more diverse toolset with which to make the ships prettier in the future. Please direct any useful feedback to the designated feedback thread.
