I wish there was a way to have the old UI back. The new UI seems a lot flatter and it's harder to tell where the boundaries between buttons/etc are.

  • I HATE the new icons. No color, no borders, no information, just bleh. Here I have this gorgeous game full of sexy space ships and technicolor nebula, and now there is pixelated monochrome clip art sitting there next to it. I take that back, clip art had color. And art. The new icons look like Microsoft Word in the Win95 era. There is nothing positive to say about them. Every CCP employee that touched these icons should be embarrassed.

  • The background blur in the UI is cool, and even mildly useful. Well done. Minor issue, there seems to be an odd fade in delay when opening a new window. Its mildly distracting.

  • Highlighting the active window by making it's entire color brighter is really annoying. I use multiple windows at once, having one of them be a different color is distracting. Using a border highlight is more then enough; don't change the contrast and readability of the entire window.

  • The rest of the UI update is a complete failure. We actually have less color control now (although what we do have is easier to use), and none of it served any purpose I could identify or even makes anything look better. Some of the themes are nice, some are in contrast hell, and some blend in with the scenery so much that I just set everything to black again so I didn't have to keep changing it when I jump to a new system. And don't get me started on those "Office Space Chic" icons again. I think this was really just spinning wheels.

  • Well, almost enough. Some ships really have blocky textures showing through now. Two that I noticed were the Stabber (near the bow), and the Vexor (the light cutouts near the spine are very blocky). I'm sure there's more. Based on the patch notes, you knew this would happen though.
  • Do I smell a series of texture updates in the future? Why yes, I do. Bring on the New Hotness.

CCP what is wrong with you???? Have you forget Incarna and mistakes you did. Why you did not read sisi feedback section? There were a lot of negative posts about new colorless UI. First ship renders were good enough except some gallente frigs, but then something happened, second week with plastic minmatars and camo pirate ships were terrible. 3 months of work for nothing.(at least for me)

Feedback: Keyboard Turning / WASD

Interesting. Has potential. Clearly deserves it's status as beta.

It feels really disconnected from the ship. It's painfully obvious to me that I'm not steering the ship, I'm altering the vector of a mathematical object. The keyboard inputs don't seem to take into account the orientation of the ship. This makes sense since it's what the server does, but trying to fly by sight is really disconcerting because ship position and control behavior don't line up very well.

I think what the controls do is pick a point on your XYZ axis and accelerate towards it. The client then renders the ship visuals as normal. Maybe that's not quite right. It seems awkward either way. Bottom line, this is not a good maneuvering tool. It's not going to be valuable in combat, except for general things like "point that way." But perhaps thats how things should be, EVE is not a platformer after all.

What it IS good for is cinematic stuff. Staking screenshots, posing your ship. Combined with the the new PBR system, I'm going to have make a new series of desktops for myself....

I don't want all the icons to be the same color.

All the "theme" choices do is change which color all the icons will be. Generally uninspiring muddy pastels to boot.
Now add simplified rather abstract reduced detail icons...and tired people end up searching a bit among new (or accidentally changed) arrangements. Even having to use tooltips to confirm what icons are right now.

Yeah yeah eventually I will learn to select without looking again. "Muscle" memory of the UI (counting/estimation of distance down list). But then that would happen eventually happen with TOTALLY FEATURELESS icon squares too as long as tooltips worked and nothing got rearranged for long time.

Not into the blind UI navigation bragging bit myself.

And besides I occasionally want to rearrange or add to icons on Neocom too. Not so great in other panels like Industry either. Its just faster to eye to use different colors to start navigate toward key areas of UI. As long as you aren't totally color blind( and they don't know what they are missing :)

The manual piloting controls are a welcome addition, but we need tracking camera(s) that can follow the ship in third-person (etc.) in the worst possible way.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

As one of those who have developed some vision acuity issues over the years (in other words, I'm getting old), I am finding some issues with the UI changes in Rhea. Overall, I really like the look and feel of the new UI, but I am having some issues with contrast, definition, edges, etc.

To be more specific:

1. The new icons are smaller and the edges are fuzzy and hard to detect/differentiate between, unless you resize them significantly. I had to stretch my neocom out to the right almost double it's previous size in order to be able to see the icons and differentiate between them. The old icons better "filled" the space they had in the neocom, the new icons have a lot more "whitespace" around them, making them appear significantly smaller relative to the old icons.

2. +1 for adding the ability for us to selectively color some/all of the new icons on the button bar/neocom. I like the new icons, they are much more intuitive, but in the heat of battle or whatever, I want to be able to quickly just click on the red button or the blue button and not have to stop and "look" for a second or two for the right icon. The new icons are an improvement over the old ones, but the ability to selectively color them for our own purposes/needs would be a major improvement.

3. I'm finding it very difficult to read most text on the windows, especially text with highlight/flash behind it (such as the chat room tabs). It's like the blur/transparency effects (which overall I think is really cool!) is blurring the text (especially the text edges), making it difficult to read/differentiate the letters. Text is not crisp, especially the edges of text. I'm still fiddling with the settings so that I can read the text, but in doing so I'm loosing a lot of the coolness of the new effects :(

4. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the ability to define our own color schemes - the RGB slider! Yes, the new presets are very nice, but the inability for me to tweak them a bit this way or that for my own needs is driving me nuts!

As to the new map.... LOVE it so far. I assume the fact we can't actually see and/or differentiate between the different stars when we select specific statistics is something that is coming Soon™? Meaning... I select kills in last 24 hours, look at the map, and it is essentially unchanged (no big red circles over Jita, for example).

WASD rocks :)

I love no more clone upgrades! Would love some graph porn on pod stats before/after Rhea eventually :)

Ships look beyond ugly when using lowest graphic settings. They almost look like they were drawn using crayons :( On the other hand, lowest possible graphic settings are much more responsive than they used to be... ;)

The new UI actually hurts my eyes to view. I am much less able to distinguish icons because they lack the color they previously had.

Can I have the old UI back?

I am totally happy with the new UI, but I think the ship materials and all that PBR goes a bit over the top.

It takes the term "shiny fleet" to a whole new level.

Look at a sin. It is so reflective, I thought I could see myself in the info-window.
Also there are ships that seem to be completely made of gold.

I'd really like a reorientation button/option of the new starmap after I move it around a bit an mess it up :P Don't forget a tactical overlay for the solar system range of the map for us d-scanners (or at least a NESW bearing circle at minimum).

Borders around buttons/lists need to get a bit stronger. We once tried to fade them away and brought them back into the game, now they're going away again.

A bit iffy with the white neocom buttons, I never had an issue with the colours of the buttons but at least now I don't mix up the Market and Ship Fitting Button. The in station buttons could have been the same size as before with the current designs at least.

If they are posting on the forums in another language, somewhere else, then they're still posting, so this doesn't account for people not posting.

People not socially interacting in an MMO? NOWAI! In which case, if they're not interacting, their opinion doesn't count anyway by virtue of not offering one. As for those that don't consider the forums a good way of expressing themselves, this is the official feedback thread as linked in the devblog, which is linked on launcher. Any other method is redundant and as for petitions, the only ones that will really count here are bug reports. In any case, if people are making any effort to express their concerns, then they obviously don't fall into the category of people being too busy enjoying the game to say anything, so this point is redundant as well and doesn't account for people not posting.

EVE is its own filter against the weak. If they don't wanna speak out, that's entirely their own problem, and if that's the case, then they're probably going to quit anyway.

That guy who's claiming that the EVE player base as a whole must be really upset about the UI change isn't really taking into account the fact that people are always much more likely to voice their displeasure over a change than their approval.

While I like most of the improvements/additions I have found that since the update I can't enjoy the experience of eve now as it's excessively laggy and slow with fps. My laptop isn't new by any means and was just about enough with the previous patch to stay smooth(ish) but now it's like watching a flip book plus the lag in station when clicking buttons isn't great. Just a shame that it's got to big for old pc's/laptops as once you get use to the new look it's pretty awesome.

Define 80% of how many EVE users? The haters posting and yelling at CCP in this thread? Tbh, these guys are not really representing the majority in EVE. While they post their wall of hate text all the time 80% of the players are playing the game. People are complaining about well designed icons and missing color wheels? Come on. Are they bored, frustrated or mad?

The new icons are ugly! The previous icons were colorful and meaningful. The new icons are perhaps meaningful, but they visually SUCK! Ugh! I hate the new icons.

Also, color schemes all suck. I've tried out a few of them and they LOOK BAD.

Eve has really uglified itself in the latest update.
