Sorry if wrong Subforum, I had no idea, where else to post this kind of question.

@ Mods: If there is a better place for this thread, please move it.

Anyway.

Right now there are tons of christmas sale offers for Microsoft Surface and other tablets and I was thinking about buying one for work and EVE. I tried Laptops but Tablets are way better in terms of mobility. I used a Thinkpad X31 Tablet some years ago (before the shader update) and it was by far the best experience I got in terms of controling eve. Imho this game is made for tablets with pen support.

Right now I was either thinking about getting the i5 Version with 4 or 8 GB RAM.

Question 1: Is the 4 GB Version ok, to run PvE in native resolution but with reduced details?
Question 2: Does EVE support lower resolutions but with the same 2 by 3 ratio?
Question 3: Are there "better" tablets? (with propper pen support)
Question 4: I dont think the i7 is neccessary, right?

Thanks in advance for all Answers.

I have a SP1 and it works alright for PVE, rather certain a SP3 should do better. 4/8 GB shouldn't really matter for one Eve client on not great settings. I'd base that on what else you are going to do with it. and yea don't need the i7, but hey Shiny!

With the Pen eve works just fine, with touch, well I wouldn't try anything other than ship spinning. which is kinda a shame as I feel like most of eve would work pretty well with touch, the game just doesn't see it coming and doesn't know how to handle it.

I recently bought a Asus T200TA Transformer book. I got the one from best buy with 2gb of ram.. (4gig version was on newegg but meh) I installed eve and did a quick test, it was stable in a wh system and in jita, I was able to undock and move. I was playing with the tablet and could not get the radial menu to register my fingers so was not able to redock but it was stable and rand fine.

That has a atom 3772 (I think.. might be a 3775) processor in it, pure windows 8, so if that can run eve with out trouble then ANY of the surface pro's, even the i3 one, should have no trouble.

I can run EVE alright on my Asus Transformer T100, off of a MicroSD card too. Low grapics settings, sure but a steady FPS. I'd probably not want to try a massive fleet fight though.

But yea, I imagine the Surface Pro 3 would handle it.

An issue you might have (i certainly seem to) is with the touch screen. EVE doesn't seem to react consistently with touching the screen, so for example I went to log on the rightmost character in the login screen, touched there and it logged in the leftmost one instead. The same thing happens in game. I gave up and used a mouse.

yea my t200 which is newer had the same issues. it would not register that i was clicking on the jita 4-4 to bring up the menu. I reattached it to the dock after that

Yeah, I heard of the touch problems, thats why I want a tablet that is using a pen. On top of that I think a pen is a must have if you want to target multiple things quickly.

Any experience with some of the more crowded L4s (like Blockade with tons of collidable objects)

well it would be, if it would behave with any predictability. about half the time it thinks you just clicked wherever you last tapped, and the other half of the time god knows what Lol

as said earlier at Char select it always picks the first character whenever you tap anywhere on screen.

kinda funny when they were trying to show off a touch friendly character creator at fanfest

Well, it still is on page one of General Discussion. Also, the problem got solved, kind of.

Would be nice if CCP would announce requirements for tablets, since they dont use the same CPU or GPU, desktop PC use. I would never think a Atom CPU would be able to rende EVE with more than 5 FPS, but it seems like it does.

Anyway, I think I will get the 4 GB RAM version and then upgrade in 2 years to the Surface 5 or 6 or so.

The Note 4 has the wrong CPU. EVE can not run on an ARM CPU. You also can not run nomal windows, just windows RT.

If you could run EVE (and other x86 programs) on an ARM CPU no one would be using normal computers anymore, since ARM CPU have ridiculous calculating power, compared to power consumption. A ARM Device using a Battery designed to run x86 CPU for a couple of hours could propably run for days, if not weeks, calculating at full speed with just passive cooling.
