Did you do these from SISI with PBR ?

No... what's PBR? If it could give me a way to automate taking the ship screenshots, I'd love to hear about it. I took these all manually with the ingame preview.

PBR is the new way of rendering the ships used by EVE. If it costs too much time I'd wait a bit with making new posters until more/all ships are made perfect.

Ah, thanks for clarifying Grauth. Yes, I'll wait for the 2015 edition to do it with thew new rendering, as I'm quite sure there will be some tweaks coming. I also wanted to do some more research on alternative methods for taking the screenshots, although editing them takes even more time.

The again, I suppose I could try running a filter on the screenshots that lightens them up more in the middle... I'll give it a test run.

Try something like photoshop unsharp mask - threshold 20, 3 pixels, 150%

Hi Hasikan, unsharp mask only sharpens images - it can bring out detail, but in this case we don't want to enhance the entire image - the background should be left as-is, and only enhance the ships themselves so they stand out more. In the case of Minmatar or Caldari ships for example, they are so close to the background that there is no way to automate highlighting them.

I am working on some new ideas though - it would be possible by substracting a full background image to extract a rough shape of a ship, which would make it possible to at least lighten it up a bit. I'll report my findings :)

Quick Mask Mode is your friend.

While often being somewhat tricky to handle, quick mask mode would indeed allow creating a rough selection that I could use to lighten the ships. However, this means that I have to edit most of the screenshots this way (at least Caldari and Minmatar). That would turn the operation into a fulltime job :) In the posters you only see the front view, but I have front and side views which are used for my EVE ShipQuickinfo WordPress plugin. Fancy editing 430-ish images this way!

What I would need is even a rough way to detect the ship shapes automatically and create a lightening template from it. I would only have to go back on some to adjust it if needed.

While you're at it, could you also make a vector drawing out of them? Buhuh just kidding Twisted

You know, I could just run the screenshots through a vector tracing tool... could even have some artistic value Lol

Thanks! And that's a cool idea - but I think you'd be hard pressed to kill all of them :D
