Ok thx already had something in my mind but wasn´t sure. Smile

To the Devs: Can you probably change the label "abstract layout" to something more obvious like "2D-Mode" or "flatten map"?

Ah! I didn't notice that option, I have the ship centered now. The ship's UI looks out of place, but it's functional.
It would be better if the game automatically catered for the docked map's width, though an option to have the map in a separate window might be even better?

I love the new look, and only have one question regarding it:

Will this make scanning easier, or are the camera controls for that still just as clunky?

Hey all

Was out for the weekend, sorry I haven't been in the thread since last week Sad There's so much great feedback here that I'm not going to go through and respond to all of it now. Instead, we're just going to start organizing and implementing a lot of it.

Look for lots of change coming over the next couple weeks and thanks so much for helping guide us in the right direction.

Cool.

Please make the background consistent with the in space Nebulaes you implemented back in 2011 :)

Quick feedback before I forget.

Its about the camera.

The zooming in and out of the camera has way too much inertia in my opinion. Like, A LOT.

Yes, eventually we hope to remove it since the new map should better cover the same functions.

I'd like to remind you that the F11 side map is the only place that shows your current dscan cone! So either keep it or make it show up on tactical overview (where it should have been to begin with)

They could always add the directional scan to the new map, it would be visible in system like 3D directional scan cone/ball, together with scanning probes it would make a great overall scanning mode.

This 3D directional scan cone/ball would be visible if you would have opened directional scan window.
I am talking only about visibility, because editing it would be like now, thru the directional scan window and moving your camera in direction you want. It would not interfere with grabbing your probes in that way.

OK I still had problems after today's patch but it appears going into space sorted it, so it works in space but not when you're in station.

Looking very good apart from it not working in stations! If you dock with it open it works - soon as you close it and reopen it it's a bit brokem again.

Doesn't have the radial menu on the window of stacked icons (like the stacked effect though).

Thanks for responding man. Several of us put quite a bit of work into pointing out flaws, fixes, and (hopeful) features. Your team has plenty of work on it's plate now. We'll call that job security, eh?

One thing the new star map really shows off well. Just how boring, un-intuitive and bland the new neocom icons are.

Half a step forward and 3 steps backward.

My opinions are mine.

  If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - - Just don't bother Hating - I don't care

It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.

From my singularity testing.

When in group by region mode.

- Your current solar system location should be visible when zoomed out to view all of current region or even the entire galaxy.. Maybe as a mouseover to the current location icon. Also .. the current location icon is kinda ugly.

- the waypoint plotter green line needs to be thicker when showing the route through different regions.

- the brightness of region spheres make the region name impossible to read at certain zoom levels in abstract mode (2d mode)

When in group by security status mode

- you cant see the waypont plotter green line in high secruity systems. Need new colour or highlighting to make it visible.

General

- the solar system names of the current region could be a little brighter and not have such short fade out.

- In 3d view When you zoom out to show the entire region most solar system names within the region should still be visible. Currently it s hard to see names of solar systems that are not directly connected to your current solar system..due to the fade.

- Please make sure you can use tight beam dscan (narrowed to 5 degree) effectively with the new solar system map. Many players use the solar system map, ship camera and tight beam dscan to find other players running anoms or at belts etc.

- Can wait for the scan probe system intergration.

- Gives us the ability to turn off/on Places of interest, costelations and regions like we can in current map.

Thumbs up

- for increasing the readability of solar system names for those of us using 90% scale font.

- map docking and the ability to keep the map toolbar visible in space.

- map looks awesome. although i would prefer star clusters rather than just a big sphere for each region. (when in group by region mode) example of star cluster - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/23/M45_filip.jpg

- group by region is awesome

Wishlist

- I would love a seperate window that I could move the map too. So i could have the map open on a second screen.

- in solar system view would be cool if planets were represented as actaul planetery spheres instead instead of a 2d icons

BUG
- In group by region mode sometimes the large region sphere doesnt disapear when you select that region.

Feedback from the test server.

I am looking forward to the day when I can have a minimap of the local system permanently available with clickable celestials and bookmarks so that I can warp around. The reason this is better than the "right click in space" menu is that it uses two dimensions instead of one, and gives me an immediate spatial idea of where the item is. With a linear menu you are mapping the items in your head.

Something to consider is whether this kind of minimap could be on the HUD and not in a window at all. (But that is something I think about every window that is blocking my view of New Eden.)

One small point. The text annotations on the map are always aligned to whole pixels in the projection of the map, so they jitter when the map moves. Could you render the text in the 3D space of the map instead, so that it is smooth?

I found that several options to show data on the map (sovereignty especially) used colours so similar that they were not useful at all.

Lastly, I hope that "abstract layout" will become truly abstract. There is a reason that the London Tube Map is better than a realistic map.

Thanks!

Saw this and immediately went, yay no more of that fullscreen cancer, then realized it doesn't work yet with probe scanning. Guess I'll have to wait a little while longer. (probe scanning is the only reason I'd ever suffer through ingame mapping, the ability to navigate from a 2nd monitor is just too compelling of an advantage over anything the ingame map can do).

Visual Bug:

When flattening the map it seems that jump bridge links trend towards infinity away from the map but come back when you unflatten the map.

im sure usefulness will slowly be implemented into the new map and cant wait to see probes and possibly a new route planner that plots more efficient routes based on AU distance between gates too.

also that directional cone idea is made of pure win and you should seriously get on that!

This may have been said already, and yes this is a beta map so I have faith that they haven't overlooked this feature and are working on it, but i'm gonna say it anyway just in case:

On the old map (solar system view) we could zoom in to a group of celestials and see the exact location of everything in orbit around that planet. Currently in the new map, all of these celestials are just stacked on top of one another similar to the way brackets appear in space - you gotta mouse over them in order to click on one, and it doesn't show you the exact locations of things like asteroid belts, customs offices, etc.

This is bad for situational and tactical awareness, and is something we absolutely need brought back.

Obvious post is obvious, I'm just stating it as a precaution.

Otherwise, great work on the map and I can't wait till it's implemented Big smile

Feedback from today's release.

"Systems I've Visited" button has no effect.

"My Assets" shows no useful information. Some stars vaguely glow dim red if I look very closely at places I already know I have stuff. I know I'm not space rich, but perhaps the scale should be normalized? It's of no use to me at the moment.

Similarly, "My Colonies" are invisible unless I zoom in on where I already know they are.

All the "planets" settings light up every system in the same shade of light yellow, so are not useful.

All the "services" settings make most of highsec glow dim red. It's pretty, but not useful for picking out and zooming in on a star with a service. "Security Offices" are almost invisible.

Summary: Sacrifice attractiveness for clear presentation please!

Thanks.
