I saw this in a cursory search and was compelled to reply. I'm putting my hat in for a vertical Minmatar T3 Destroyer. The Tornado and Naglfar are some of my favorite ship designs in the game.

I'm sure there are people who still think the Loki is along the wrong axis, but with this T3 release, I think it's pertinent. If we're judging this concept against other Minmatar design principles, the Tornado and the Naglfar are essentially huge weapon platforms for their size. (Tornado with over-sized hard-points and Naglfar a small Capital built just for the guns) Gunboat destroyers are basically frigates built with too many weapons for their class. Take the Catalyst, and its elongated wing design. If it were flipped 90 degrees, it would be a vertical ship.

Plus, the Naglfar and the Vargur, two other vertical ships, both are the Minmatar's other transforming ships. When they make a ship class with extra big guns and the ability to change form, the Minmatar make that thing vertical.

My Catalyst *is* vertical. You lot just fly on the wrong axis/90 degrees out of phase (scientific evidence has yet to be conclusive).

Yes. With Bells On. Big smile

Maybe a better one? Could once have a ship where in defensive mode it's an upright ship, and then when the ship "shifts" to a speed mode, it reorients the bulk of it's body so it becomes a long thin ship, and shifts perhaps into a catalyst-like posture when in sniper mode?

This might be a bit difficult. essentially, the part that contains the pilot remains in the same alignment, and the body rotates on two axis around it, possibly further reconfiguring it's layout, panels moving, streamlining in speed mode (I know that it's space and therefore aerodynamics are not an issue, but it would LOOK cool Cool)

Yes, yes, and more yes. Vertical is the only way to go.

Or shifting from vertical to horizontal when it changes modes. THAT would be amazing. In fact, for hilarity:

Oooh I like that Cool I'd love if it changed like that. Perhaps with the body made of around 3 distinct parts, each one on top of the other, that slided back and forth between modes.

I usually don't make this kind of topics, but it seemed a good idea to do so this time.

Many of us would like to see the upcoming T3 Minmatar Destroyer to be vertical. Right now all existing destroyers are quite lineal; while that certainly isn't a bad thing, new ones are a good opportunity to explore new concepts, unless CCP's vision of destroyers is that of horizontal ships.

I think the best way of showing our support for the vertical concept is to do so explicitally, so that is the purpose of this topic:

Comment here if you want the T3 Minmatar destroyer to be vertical!

Of course, if you don't want it to be vertical, say so too! Everyone's voice should be heard.

To help designing and mental visualizing, here are some examples:

- Rupture
- Naglfar
- Tyrfing
- Concept 1
- Concept 2
- Concept 3
- Non-EVE example (still a human ship)
- Another non-EVE example

EDIT: remember these are just examples; the final ship does not have to be like any of them.
EDIT 2: another example.
EDIT 3: another great example from SIrera Artrald (Concept 3).
EDIT 4: please don't forget about the cooling fins! Very good examples at concepts 1 and 3.

And CCP has just shown in o7 that they don't pay attention to the community. Seems like it's a horizontal destroyer after all.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Ooooooh Sad

Well, as they say it's just one of the 3 modes, and even they are not much sure about wether it's horizontal or not. Hey, maybe there's still hope... It looks quite nice though.
