Now that is interesting.

I was going to say "Here comes the blast front!"

What, say, would be the the energy released if a gas giant of one standard mass was completely converted into energy? (Standard mass defined as the point at which a gas giant no longer expands in radius)

Could it be possible that this... blast front caused a sudden supercritical reaction in the star via radiation pressure, leading to a runaway reaction that detonated it? Say, a planet converting into energy at the edge of the solar gravity well from some exotic reaction like Isogen-5, exploding, then slamming that energy into the star?

That, my good sir, is a shockwave. Light is refracting around a pressure wave or being refracted around another type of wave (gravity?). If you'd like, here are some pictures of the same phenomina.

Out of curiosity, has anyone done a measurement on the area that this blast wave covers? Even a basic calculation on the area based off the approximate distance and the angle it subtends might tell us a lot. For instance, is this phenomenon confined to one solar system, or is it possible that the blast front might reach other populated systems?

If it is interstellar in size, that could explain why the jumpgates were shut down before detonation. It would seal the intended victims of this catastrophe in the blast zone.

When I get to k-space next, I will forward the data we have to Stellar Cartography at Center for Advanced Studies: Clacille, where I have a contact. Well, more someone who owes me, but that's another story. Until then, I will have our researchers run some math on this at our PoS. If anyone can do the math as well, we may reach a conclusion faster.

Lives may be at stake. Please do not delay.

Has it faded? I've noticed that it doesnt seem to be as bright in Nahol anymore.

Addendum: No, it was just hidden behind a sensor overlay icon.

In other news, I still maintain my theory that this isn't a core collapse supernova, but a nova event caused by a planet vaporizing near the star acting much as the initiating explosives in a fusion bomb. It explains the shockwave that is offenter from the star. With as fast the wave has been expanding the way it has been, it is entirely possible that we missed the initial flash behind the glare of the star flaring into a nova. We didn't pay much attention to the star until it sustained the extreme brightness, and unless someone has visual logs that can pinpoint the exct moment it went off we might never know whether or not the shockwave point occured first or the nova did.

All,

I'm just joining the discussion, and things look like they're on fire.

Yesterday at about 04:00 GMT, I took these photos of the anomaly.
Photos taken from Jufvitte, constelation Kiartanne, region Verge Vendor.

link

Today, in the same system, roughly 21 hours later, the object disappeared. During the time that it was visible, it did not move from that location slightly to the left of the cavity in Kiartanne's nebula.
This cooberates that it has begun to fade.

From this distance, I can see what plainly appears to be a dust cloud forming around the object, tailing the "shockwave".

I wasn't able to gather much data during its exposure in VV.

One of the better places to view this, Vale of the Silent seems to be under Sansha Incursion...

I might be seeing connections where there are none, but it's suspicious to me none the less.

Edit: Not sure I'd say it's fading. Though that ring sure is growing.

Greetings fellow capsuleers.

I was going trough my cartography program and i noticed something odd, i wonder if it was some kind of buggy software update or if it could have some meaning due to recent unusual events.

These regions show a unique glowing signature in certain constellations that i was not aware before:

http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Derelik (Ammatar)
http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Domain (Amarr)
http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/Feythabolis (Angels)

http://evemaps.dotlan.net/map/The_Forge (Caldari)

Have anyone had this behavior on their software too?
