For me, EVE is the best MMO of all time and thats why ive been playing it for almost 8 years now!

But yesterday, i was checking to change the name of one of my alts and i noticed that it wasnt an available feature. I was very surprised since in other MMOs i played, it was.

So here are 3 features i've seen in other MMOs that would be great to have in EVE :

- Name change : Simple, be able to change the name of a toon.

- Character revamp : Change the race and sex of a toon.

- Skill respec : Be able to respec your skills! (Simple, just put all your SPs in a bank and reassign them where u want in your skills)

All those features could be available for a fee and im sure many players would be willing to pay for it.

Thx.

1 no to name change, people use alts enough as is to jump into corps they want to infiltrate
2 there is a character revamp, I'm flagged for one
3 this isn't wow or Diablo,if people could repec it would devalue the worth of pilots as you could instant perfect what ever you wanted at the cost of a field you aren't using but trained anyways

Eve is a game about making choices and living with the consequences.

you screwed me over you can't just get away and hide by changing your name

you chose to train X skills then you now know X skills you don't get to just hope around from one role to another this forces you to group up and play with others that trained skills you didn't.

Eve is not another theme park where you go around wait in a queue and ride all the pretty little line. Its a game where you chose what it is you are going to do and you live with that choice.

if you don't like that go back to WoW

-Jumping Puzzles. GW2 has jumping puzzles. They should be implemented behind The Door.

-Killing giant rats/spiders. There are no giant rats or spiders in Eve for us to kill in some old lady's basement. If we don't enter our captains quarters at least once a month, they should become infested, and we need to clear them out.

-Swimming. Eve is space submarines. We should be able to exit our ship, exit our pods, and go scuba diving in belts.

-Achievements. You get 50 New Eden Bragging Points for mining out your 1000th rock of Veldspar.

-Instanced Dungeon Grinding. I won't be happy until I can spam Jita with "LFG 3/4 Guristas Doomsday Cannon, Logi only"

Oh dear, I seem to have gotten lost... this isn't the one line bad idea thread.

No. In this game, your name is your reputation (for better and worse).

Sure, you can sell the character a buy a new one... but your selling price might be higher or lower depending on how much fame or infamy you have garnered... and the character you buy can have their own set of problems which you have to live with.

Poje wrote:

This is purely superficial. I have no problems with this. And it seems CCP doesn't either (hint: it is already on its way).

Poje wrote:

No. If you decided to train for something, it is because you found it useful for your needs at that moment (and you gained a benefit using them). And skills can never be useless because they can always be utilized and benefited from (you are just choosing not to).

Plus...

- the way the current skillpoint accumulation system works, you train based on attributes. What people will do is just map their characters to two things, train only the skills that gain a boost from those attributes, and then respec. People would be max training all the time and the whole point of attributes becomes meaningless.

- people who respec would keep the bulk of their SP in "reserve" (as "unallocated skillpoints") so they have the ability to "insta-train" into whatever they need at that particular moment. This removes the planning aspect of the skill system.

- the FOTM mentality should not be encouraged any more than it already is. Instead of "well, you can't fly exactly this so fly that" you will have "if you can't fly this, respec or GTFO."

Exists already

Remaps exist for attributes. I can possibly see this as an option in the future with some long timer like a year.

#2 : not true, u can only remodel your toon lookwise, but cant change Race or Sex.

#3 : Dont agree, since i saw in plenty of games, nothing bad can come from that.

Other games have a level cap and skill structure that locks you out of other professions once you choose a path. EVE doesn't. Time is the only limiting factor and that is working as intended.

you can do this of sorts...its called x-training.

If you look at the grand scheme of eve as I have over years you see 2 trends.

1. Support skills are universal. No matter what you do (besides dedicated trader in a station no flying a ship) support skills carry over to every ship in eve. Even in polar shifts like shield tank to armour, which I have done. My above average shied skills help armour when I run it. If better shields eats up a few shots worth of dps more....that's less damage my actual armour tank is taking for a bit of time. This has served me well as armour can drop into half assed hull tanking in drawn out slug fests. If I do this later than the other guy....it helps out imo.

2. the patch that nerfs your go to setup today can, and will, be overridden in patches later on down the road. Trained racial cruiser 5 for a nerfed ship it will take time but at some point it will regain some if not all of its former (op) glory.

nope.. It goes agaisnt eve concept of consequence. On a game where your reputation is the most important asset and scamming is allowed you cannot allow name changes.

Respect is menaingless.. you will eventually get all the skills you will ever need.

To counter that, they could make available the past infos like they do for Corp history, like : "Formely known as...."

I think what he's getting at with character revamp is that it shouldn't require Aurum - and I agree. Microtransactions in a paid sub MMO? CCP plz.

This has proposed in the past. The problem lies in name recognition.

If I am leery of someone (or am told to be leery of someone), I should to be able to ID that person right away just from their name. Having to check the bio of everyone I meet just to make sure I know who they are (and by extension, what they are capable of) would be extremely tedious and time consuming... things I can't usually afford when I am hunting or being hunted by people.

I actually wouln't mind seeing the name changes being introduced. If the change were recorded in the corp history page, perhaps with a new tab, then the information is there for anyone to look for. Add in that, if done correctly, the name change wouldn't necessarily remove that character from any contact or watch lists, and it will be even easier to discover who that pilot really was.

People have been using psuedonyms since writing was invented and perhaps before. Why should EvE pilots be any different. In game, if a pilot wants a 'new start' then that pilot should be allowed to do so. However, if a prospective employer/ally/enemy wants to do a background check, then a simple look at the character history will point out the pilot's past... without an API check.

Name changes would be nice for many reasons. Yes, maybe hiding from enemies or trying to infiltrate might be the boogeymen under the bed, but there are other reasons. Purchasing a character what has great skills but is named PIEFACEFREAK or some sillieness would probably be the number one reason to change one's name. "You have to live with the consequenses of what you did!"... and yet the player in question has done nothing. Still, that's part of buying a pilot, but at least let the player have a name that means something to them.

The real reason that the name change would be a nice idea, if controlled correctly, would be for asthetics. I know many of you don't care what you name yourselves, and quite a few of you have never even seen your ship outside the hanger. But for some, Style. Is. Everything. Allowing ship skins, and eventual repainting is a step in this direction. Allowing avatar resculpts and reposes are another. Why not the name as well--as long as the history can be followed easily.

Full resculpts (including gender) but not necessarily race, should be coming down the pipes.

The SP thing, is wrong on so many levels, and the posters before me have already hammered away at that silliness, that I don't need to do so again.

Theres another reason. Know a couple of friends that started Eve just to see what this was about and created a toon with a silly name but later as they got addicted to eve wished to change the name for a more "serious" name and couldnt...

I have a rule for this....

Does this name sound tarded up to about a week after I made it up. If yes, reroll. If no, press on. 7 days not a deal breaking reroll to me. Many games in the past I actually planned the first week to be throwaway week to see what character can do if power trained to say "level 10" and if I liked them....rerolled knowing how to train the new permanent char better. And in a weeks time you should be going man this name is just stupid.

Also have another rule, applied to life in general.

Don't make stupid names for anything that will potentially be reused again and again.

I apply this to e-mail a lot and forum subs. I have my normal names for most things. Normal meaning not offensive or stupid. One name I have for forums is the name of a mathematical model I studied at one time for example. Gets a laugh if you know statistical models, otherwise it's just another name in the forum.

edit: then I have my stupid name mail accounts for sites that say need to register to use. As I will never use the account for real...they get wtf names as I really don't care after I am in the site.
