Potential Babylon 5 film for 2016

I'm crossing my fingers on this one, because lord knows us Babylon 5 fans deserve something to look forward to again. Why believe this one will have more chances than pervious attempts? Warner Brothers loses the licensing rights from next year, which means JMS will have the rights to do what he wants with the franchise. Effectively he can use his production studious (Studio JMS) to make the film as long as he can get the funding. In the current climate where Trek is doing well, Star Wars is about to relaunch, and Gaurdians of the Galaxy was hugely successful, there's a warm glowing feeling towards sci-fi as a whole. All JMS ha to do is make the film accessible to the public. The very nature of a reboot film would require a contained storyline, which means you avoid the issue of people coming in late to the story and being utterly confused.

If this goes ahead, all I'm hoping for is that they include the omega destoyers...and MooooaAAAr starfuries!. Also the Warlock destroyers were freakin' awesome.

It's ok, man. It's ok... Legend of the Rangers never happened, at least not in my reality.

Awesome! I still need to work through the B5 films apart from Thirdspace. I miss Londo and G'Kar arguments.

Not to hijack the thread at all, but this reminds me that a Farscape movie is also in the works. Thought I'd throw that out there as more good news.

Looks like being a space nerd is gonna be good this decade, in real life and entertainment Big smile.

Grrr.

I demand to be assured that the potential script for that potential B5 film will not be written by whoever perpretated the last season. Ugh

If your excited about B5 being "rebooted" you missed the whole point of what made B5 so damn special.

I would love to see more B5, but in order to be anything of worth it has to do two things. First is to have a good, strong, self contained story. It was the main strength of B5 and is a must to attract new fans. Second, it can't just be a rehash of old things. If it is just the same, there isn't any point. That doesn't mean everything has to be new and unfamiliar, but certain story arcs and confrontations have been done and need to be left behind. You need new people and a new dynamic, that can stand on its own.

What I'm afraid of is a situation where the primary focus goes to getting the green light for the movie and only after that comes the plans what it's going to be about. That will just produce another pointless fanwank movie, that will be slightly amusing, but ultimately will do nothing to bring life to the franchise.

So....because the original story was so good, there can't be another story in the same setting? Personally, I loved the whole shebang, but it doesn't stop me from realising that reboot coulf bring it to a whole new generation. A reboot could mean a brand new series, and a new story seperate from the original.

The script will be in place before JMS's production company even starts to look around for fundiing. I've got faith in the man to do the plot right.

That is sad.

I truly enjoyed the scene where G'Kar and Londo were stuck in the damaged lift...

Londo: "Can anyone hear me??"
G'Kar (giggling quietly to himself): "I hear you"

So, you're a bounty hunter. No, that ain't it at all. Then what are you? I'm a bounty hunter.

Londo knew that he would die with G´Kars hands around his throat, he made that quite clear right from the beginning.
Funny the way that vision came true....
