CCP time to fix the amount you can zoom away from your ship

Every competitive game has a limited zoom in order to create a competitive environment where position and environmental awareness are very important. Zooming away from your ship in Eve for a ridiculous amount not only completely breaks immersion and makes 0 sense ( how is it even possible?) but it also creates an unbalanced field. Players that see Eve as what it is, a video game about pretty spaceships, keep the camera at a reasonable distance are in a major disadvantage to players that like to play around with tiny dots having a full tactical view extending for hundreds of kilometres.

CCP time to get on with times and along with manual spaceship controls limit the zoom out at a reasonable distance. I can assure you new players that find out how much you can zoom away in this game are completely put off. It feels like someone long time ago forgot to put a reasonable limit in place and in the end it was just left there as an intended but broken feature.

P.S. If having a tactical view unnaturally extending for hundreds of kms was a feature you were proud of you would showcase it in your awesome trailers. But that will never happen because it looks silly and makes no sense.

If zooming out breaks your immersion.. then don't do it.

I fail to see how this is CCP's fault.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I like it.

Not your idea, but that it's actually original. Don't see that very often these days.

I think Dust 514 should have a camera that only looks at your avatar's face, obscuring not only most of the screen but looking in the opposite direction that your gun is pointed. While the camera could be used for situational awareness, CCP understands that most people really like how gloriously handsome their avatar looks and it's the main reason most people play the game.

Came hoping the OP was asking CCP to make zoom 'ticks' adjustable (increasable) before I definitely break my mouse wheel.

Leaving bewildered.

What ship? The brackets?

I don't think I can zoom in or out on the brackets. No matter what I do they stay the same size.

because your video card would poop if you had to stay zoomed in.

In EVE you don't pilot a ship, you command it.

No need to rant about the very premise of the game.

E: Think about it as a visual feed into your pod of all the radar and sensor data from your ship. This is why there is a maximum distance you can zoom. Any ship without that kind of sensor range is not worth flying, because you will be killed from the lack of tactical data.

E: E: It's not like there's an astronaut with a camera following the jet exhausts of your ship feeding you an image, either.

Left and right mouse buttons at the same time, move mouse along y axis. Much more precise and slightly less irritating.

I for one, wish we could zoom out more.

:reasons:

Loyd is spot-on with the dual mouse button suggestion. Zero to max and all points in-between in one short drag.

i zoom out all the time, esp when mining, it enables me to see the scope of the field as well as the location of red crosses and other players/threats in relation to my ship. I also zoom out if i'm running through ls for the same reason, i can better see where ships are to decide if i need to go or run back to gate. so sorry but -1

I have used zoom out on gate camps to get an idea of what kind of weapons they are using. Is that caracel running lights or rapid lights or heavies? Does that bomber have a bomb launcher on it? That BS is running rails - must be a sniper or it's having blasters - gonna need a sniper.

Things like that.

So, we'll have to wonder then, is that an exploit? Should we not have to, well you all know, uncloak, and get in range of the ship scanner, and then get OMGWTFPWNED by the campers who work sooo hard to sit there all day and instablap every damned thing that moves for no reason because the game provided them a choke point.

I don't want to be unfair in how I get around things. Please CCP let us know if looking at other ships with zoom out is evil and makes Baby Jesus cry or something.

Keep the zoom and add a camera lock that keeps the view the same so when I WASD it will feel more like flying.

Pity?

@OP, doesnt break my immersion. Its not an exploit. It actually takes a modicum of skill to use it to long look at distant objects... No. Just no.

My only issue with zoom is that the default "reset distance" when you reset your camera or stop looking at something is just WAY too close for any proper combat situation. There are 0 instances where I don't zoom out a bit after resetting camera to my ship.
