Community Relations Idea: CCP Presents... During Patch Day!

So for those of you who have never sat through a Patch Day in EVE Online, you're in for a trip.

For those of you that have... Well, you know what is to come.

Either way, I think this sums it up pretty well:

Because of this, I suggest something to CCP: Take it as a great way to do more PR?

How, you might say? Well, easy! Put up some webcams around the office and stream them! Let your community see what goes on at CCP during a patch day! Is it hectic? Maybe it's just another day at the office. Maybe CCPers would like the chance to show off to their fans? Can Torfi solve a rubiks cube in 40 seconds? Maybe Hilmar is particularly good at juggling? Or Soundwave can paint for us (lord knows his MS Paint skills are top notch...) Is there a game of chessboxing in the parking lot going on during lunch that would be fun to watch? Perhaps some of the GMs have written verse about their experiences and wish to share? Maybe some shenanigans on an internal server with a Jovian Battleship wing taking on a few hundred thin clients in pink Hurricanes with sleeper AI?

It's not like we have anything better to do, and it sure beats sitting in front of the EVE login screen till the serves come up!

Just my two hundredths of an ISK (if you have them turned on.)

Did it ever occur to you that most of CCP is busy as hell during patch day/week. I don't think PR should precede fixing the inevitable bugs.

... Consider I've done a fair bit of software design myself, yes, I have an infinitesimal inkling of how busy they might be. I also think CCP is the kind of company, given their scrum/XP programming traits, that would welcome a virtual window into their office for a day so that their users could look at and enjoy what they go through, especially on the busiest of days, to make our game a reality.

I'm not saying that this should take precedence in any way. The people at CCP are at WORK. That isn't to say that their work can't be entertaining to the people who never get to see it. I for one enjoyed watching the video blogs just to see what CCP looks like on the inside. They have Nerf guns. ^_^

See, that's what I'm talking about. I'm not saying, "CCP should entertain us!" I'm saying, "What is patch day like for CCP? I'd like to see!" Because for me, it's pretty darn boring.

Something like, "Hi, I'm CCP _____, I work in the art and I've been V3ing your ships for you guys! I wrote this haiku about patch day."

Or "Hey, I'm CCP _______, and I work on team _____ doing _____. A question I see a lot on the forums is about ______. Here's a 20 second explanation that I would normally put into a forum post but instead would like to say to all of you face to face!"

Ok I see what you are saying. In which case I don't see why not.

I'd pay to see CCP Guard riding around in motorized shopping cart with a camera strapped on top of it filming everyone on Patch day lol

Indeed, I'd be amused.

To me, so many of the CCPers do work, and we never even see them. I'm sure part of this is because English can be a barrier with heavier accents, but still... I feel like there are so many people who make the game we play and love happen, and I've never even seen their faces or hear what they have to say.

And yes, this is indeed an expansion. Excuse me. I refer to the major action of patching the servers into that new expansion, I guess. Either way, you know what I mean. ... That said, I'd love to see CCP Soundwave wearing an eye patch... for... patch... day... Nevermind, I'll go back to my corner now.

How did you know about my motorized shopping cart?

It's not a bad idea to do something on patch day. We've actually talked about it and maybe we can do something, maybe not a live feed of all workstations, but something. Smile

Morning CCP Guard, got to say your presentation skills on the new blogs have come along way. Was not a fan at first but your last one was a cracker, that little smirk at the end as you said see you in space gave me a good chuckle Lol
Anyway all this communication and transparency is just what we needed.
Its been a interesting journey last couple of months and I hope this is the beginning of anew start.
Anyway any chance we can get some info on the final patch build size and DT estimated ,

The best patch day for me so far has been the release of Empyrian Age.

The releases of different news throught the day as the Minmatar fleet was running around New Eden and wrecking havoc, kept me refreshing the web page throughout the whol;e day at work.

I was even getting a bit mad at CCP when they depoleyd the patch ahead of schedual, as I had to get back to work Smile

Apocrypha was also good like that.

I endorse this idea. So long as it doesn't interfere with the dev's work (and if done right, it won't), it would be awesome.

two easy options

1 video feed from the caffeteria
2 video feed of the main hall way.

or instead of the cafe, attach web cams to all the coffee pots around the office.

www.dust514stats.com do you know?

After watching the live feed of your last expansion (link includes reenactment of my actual reaction), I´m very grateful for that. P
