Also also, if a woman gave him that shirt, that woman is just as guilty for her poor decision as the man is for his decision to wear it.

ah, i don't think the shirt's a problem in many social settings

e: i mean, it's the sort of thing that needs a judgement call. there's jokes we'd say in private to friends that we would not repeat in public, for example. i've seen someone break down completely in response to a joke someone told in the wrong setting. i've repeated the same joke to friends privately and they've enjoyed it.

However what happened was he did a downright lovely thing by choosing to wear a present someone made for him when appearing on TV. He then got harassed and bullied for it (you really think he broke down during the apology because he suddenly realised the shirt made him Literally Worse Than ******?).

There would've been a justification if the shirt had actually been offensive of course, but it wasn't. Images of women are not offensive in and of themselves, and I didn't see any of the women on said shirt getting raped or 'making a sammich'.

And yes, this belongs in offtopic because Matt Taylor's space isn't a liquid and he doesn't have an "orbit at x" button.

i have no idea what the guy is thinking and neither do you, the shirt was inappopriate in the context it was worn, and this topic doesn't belong anywhere

I'll believe in things like his shirt being sexist and an afront to women when I'll see all women wearing knee-level skirts and buttoned up shirts.
This is coming from a woman. Who can be very misogynistic at times.

The matter that it was innapropriate for the event - fashion-related, understandable.
The fact that it states that women are not welcome in science and are looked down upon in today's world, baseless.

Speaking of out of context quoting, going Commando in a T2 shirt would be hitting two Arnold references in the same outfit.

Anyone else see the walking in NYC 10 hours video?

there's one part where a guy comes up to the girl and says hello. when she doesn't respond he says something like 'bye, have a good day'. i remember thinking Well Okay Nothing Wrong With That Then, but he then started following her around which is Not Okay

the video's come under criticism from a racial perspective - the makers edited out footage of white people who were also making inappropriate comments. according to them, the people making those comments were poorly heard by the mic or were off-camera. they've acknowledged the poor racial message this sends if i remember right

Sure. I've been in a few discussions about the video both in and out of work and it has been an emotional, complicated mess. The fellow you mention is one extreme example from the video.

there's a difference between a man wearing such a shirt and a woman who wants to look good

i can't remember the name behind the idea - sexual liberation? the idea is that a woman's sexuality and body are hers to enjoy. that is, a women dressing to look good to men because she enjoys it is liberating. she makes a choice because it makes her feel good. she owns her sexuality and her body and she does what she wants with them. she doesn't deserve criticism for that and noone should tell her not to

now when a woman's body (fake women on shirts) is being used purely for the enjoyment of others, it becomes a different situation. there was a star trek movie recently, i think, where the movie was criticised for having one of the actresses nude for no real reason? look at what's being criticised. the actress is not. she's doing a job she chose to do, she says well i'm fine with taking my clothes off for the job. that's ok. the choices of the management to depict a nude woman for the sake of pleasing an assumed male audience for tickets or promotion, that will be criticised

e: to be clear, this creates an opposite concept to liberation - oppression. when an entire gender's body is being commonly used for sales or the other gender's enjoyment, it creates the idea that's what women's bodies are for. they're not.

Dude the same day this happened (if i remember correctly) Kim Kardashian released the "Break the Internet" set of picks where she's in her "baby suit".
Did you hear anything about that from the same feminist movement? Because actions like that promote sexism you know.

Now this guy, a brilliant man, has his career possibly ruined because some quack felt offended by the drawn women on his shirt. But "like-ing" semi-nudes of Kim is totally OK.

So in a world that sees nothing wrong with drooling after KK's butt and her publicly posting pics of her nude - we go after a scientist who has a shirt with drawn not naked women? Seriously now...
Also the leader of the same feminist group that went after the dude has pictures of her in a "Bathe In Male Tears" sweatshirt on her Faceboook page. So yeah...

My take on it is fairly simple

Was it deliberately sexist? - I dont think so, he doesnt strike me as the kind of man who would do something like that deliberately.

Was it stupid - probably although I can understand his reasons for it.

Should he have been crucified the way he has been - absolutely not, a simple "that was rather inappropriate" followed by an apology should have sufficed. Theres no excuse for the way some people have gone after him.

Because if feminist movement steeps so low as to accuse that man for being sexist just for wearing a silly shirt while landing a ******* probe on a ******* comet in the ******* ******* of space then it clearly has completely forgotten what feminism is about.
Women who rallied behind that stupid accusation are the very cause of why feminism is viewed the way it is viewed, and bring shame to us all.

Respect to that guy and his team and their work and for advancing the human knowledge of space.
He had to present a public apology in tears on the day that probably would have been the single most greatest day of his life!

It was one small shirt for man, one giant step backwards for women.

Also let's not forget this....You owe your very existence to a man sexually objectifying a woman.

Don't you people know science is sick? Sick with political correctness syndrome.

I mean obviously when someone is born they automatically get 'the right' never to be offended ... Or wait unlike this scientist guy who ... offended? Wait whut?!?

Oh right only those who have the masses on their side.

Feminism, the exploitation of the female who previously where hard to impossible to be exploited. Now they have money aka more ownership and females are overal easy to manipulate into buying things.

Considering happiness in women is at an all time low. Ya got duped and talked into patching up the fractional bank reserve system. One of the many patches. Cause you know oil never runs out right?

After all this banther clearly i must be a chauvinist. Clearly ... Cause you know stuff.

:)

In the beginning men worked and women stayed at home, cleaned cooked and took care of the kids.
Nowadays women work and some men stay at home, clean, cook and take care of the kids. The only difference is you bastards now have kitchen appliances, washing machines, vacuum cleaners, smart-ovens and stuff. It was all planned! Damn you all! Damn you all to hell! You tricked us!
