AMARR VICTOR!
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-11-14/u-s-navy-deploys-its-first-laser-weapon-in-the-persian-gulf.html
US Navy = Amarr. They have a 16km, multifrequency beam laser. It is fitted to a medium sized ship that also has a landing bay for multiple aircraft (helicopters and possibly the F-35). So basically.... an Omen. Small, fast, armor tanking drone boat with lasers.

US navy may have lazors but their ship names leave a lot to be desired.

USS Ponce, USS Hopper, USS Hue City (huehuehue).

Now the British on the other hand

HMS Vengeance, HMS Ambush, HMS Agamemnon, HMS Dragon etc etc

Still..........could be French

They don't need dat gold. According to bloomberg it's a command ship.

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

America has long had trouble with the concept of "taking goddamn pride in your fleet".

Yes, namming a ship the USS Chicago could be a plus to anyone on the ship actually from Chicago, but calling it the USS Blood Render would be way more badass, scare the hell out of natives (especially if you plop a couple oversized guns on it) and frankly if we named more things like pilots named bombers/tanks, more people would think the military was badass and cool to join.

We used to have cool names for submarines in WWII but then someone decided to start naming them after states and citys.

I thought they were all named after admirals or summat like that ...like the arley burke type ships ...im not a clued up navy person tbh .. I get the impression the yanks follow a certain naming philosophy when it comes to giving their military hardware names .. like they name their helicopters after native American tribes ...and so forth .. so im assuming the navy name their ships (mostly ) after their admirals . could be wrong though so clarification may be needed on this .

U.S. Navy has a pretty consistent naming convention (although I agree, the UK navy has some cool ship names)

The general lines today are:
Aircraft carriers are named after American admirals and politicians, usually presidents.
Amphibious assault ships are named after early American sailing ships, U.S. Marine Corps battles, or legacy names of earlier carriers from World War II.
Ballistic missile submarines are named after states (Before, battleships were but the WWII Iowas were the last to see service)
Fast attack submarines are named after cities.
Cruisers are named after battles. (historically, they were named after cities - with their decline in importance, the fast attack subs got that honor)
Destroyers and Frigates are named after U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Coast Guard heroes (can be any rank)

More detail can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_ship_naming_conventions#Contemporary_ship_naming_conventions

On the other hand the US Coast Guard... well at least one current class of mainline cutters gets cool "attribute" names!
Reliance, Diligence, Vigilant, Active, Confidence, Resolute, Valiant, Courageous, Steadfast, Dauntless, Venturous, Dependable, Vigorous, Durable, Decisive and Alert

Another coastal patrol class has vessels named after fish and mythological sea creatures.
