So I lost my 1o1thanny (1 out 1 thanny) this morning. It died a good death and Mik said I should write up a memorial battle-report so we can all mourn it's untimely death.

Noobman (Head CC for HK) was poking around channels trying to sell his T2 CCC rigged thanny. Even though I didn't have a plan for it at the time, I still bought it because it was a good deal and located close to one of our entrances.

A few weeks later once I had trained up my fighter and carrier skills I decided to try to make a Thanny work for soloing C5 sites. I wasn't sure it was possible after whelping so many on SISI. When Flux Coils got buffed I was really happy because it made the 1o1thanny not only possible, but downright easy. (Or so I thought)

After one dead SISI 1o1thanny and no successful clears I decided to try it out on Tranquility. Hemorrhaging fighters and drones and running out of cap, I finally managed to kill enough sleepers to warp out using warp core stabs. I tried again with more aggro-mods and almost die two more times. I just couldn't get the sleepers to not shoot my drones (at the time I was trying to kill the Guardians first instead of the frigs/cruisers). So I gave up for awhile and it sat unused until another opportunity presented itself.

I don't remember WHY I decided to drop my 1othanny on top of this Archon instead of my Naglafar, (maybe I wanted to lose it, maybe I knew we were going to get dropped on by supers), but I did. Assigning my fighters to our Ishtars helped break the Archons tank and I moon-walked out before a Nyx landed. Ideas about using a DPS Thanatos more often to support carrier kills quickly diminished as we figured it would be pointless (most ganks) or not enough (when we drop dreads). http://lazerhawks.net/kb/index.php/kill_related/10213/

A few weeks later I started working on using the 1othanny to rat again. Things got much easier when I started to kill the frigs/cruisers first, and used ewar mods to keep my drones safe. I beared pretty peacefully for awhile, killing chain after chain and annoying everyone in corp. Making my monster public stirred up some ****, but the video came out really well and I got some positive feedback and suggustions.

The first time something bad happened was when I was ratting in a 2o and the locals woke up with me in a site (and Alec with me in his Vargur). Despite wanting to leave, Alec said we should stay and when a Moros dropped in at 300kms a sleeper wave spawns. I was aligned out and warped off (thinking a 2nd dread or carrier was close behind), but Alec didn't have his micro-jump drive on and got caught in the site. Realizing it was just 2-3 dudes we rallied a shield fleet together and I went back into the site with my 1o1thanny. Sure enough they warped a 2nd dread on grid (which I learned doesn't spawn sleepers, both dreads have to be on grid at the same time), and we were half a second away from bubbling it in his Saber (they had brought a Rapier to web it off which we ended up killing). I finished the site, scooped Alecs loot and went home, happy I survived.

Then today, I broke my golden rule: Never Bear in EU TZ
As I was finishing up my 2nd site 2 Ncdot Sabers landed on top of me, I called out what was happening and got a full combat refit, (opting for a large capacitor battery betting that it would be a subcap fleet that dropped on me). Ishtars and Curses landed and proceeded to try to break my tank. I capped out all their curses and started to shoot a few of their ships while our fleet formed up. I almost popped a Celestis and a Stabber in this early phase when they only had 2 scimitars on field. Originally 25 on the Ncdot side, it continued to grow to about 55. What made things worse was I told our small fleet to warp to the site signature, instead of the bookmark I made so they landed 50kms off me and all the ishtars and scimitars just kited away. With 60% stable capacitor and bleeding into armor I told our fleet I was gonna die and to gtfo. I pulled my implants, jetted and popped the blue loot in my cargo and waited. Looking back if I had a triage module I could have tanked them for days. Cap-batteries and flux coils are amazing and their neuts couldn't do anything to me.

First capital ship I lost, and had fun losing it. All PvE ships have a death-clock, my 1o1thanny's time had come, and I embraced it. (Mostly because I got my 1o1-tank fit on, if they had popped my depot I would have died instantly and been pissed.

Welcome to the rattlesnake master race. While it won't solo a Hard Knocks gang on your off time, it will solo c4 sites. With boosts and in a pulsar, you can ownzone unescalated c5s too but the dps might take a while to break the RR frigs in some of the sites. Laugh while your pally friends worry about cap while your cruises keep firing

WTS: T2 CCC fit Thanny. Located in Iesa. Mint condition though may need dusting, has not undocked since 2011 as Thannys are useless.
