Missioning and Faction Standings

I have several characters and in all of them I have managed to keep my standings solid for all 4 factions. I decline missions against opposing navys, run SOE epic arc and give boost to lowest faction etc.

I was thinking about changing that for one of my characters. He is a level 4 mission runner and almost never leaves Gallente space. He his own corp and will never be a "main" in a player corp. In fact my main chars are all now out in null sec. This is my "highsec" mission runner only character. He ships all his loot and LP store stuff to Jita for sale by an alt.

I am tired of declining missions and juggling standings with this character and I would like to just say NO MORE! I want to run every mission and do every storyline mission and let Amarr and Caldari factions go into the toilet. I want to get to a min of 5.0 standings in both Gallente and Minmatar so I can access every level 4 agent in both regions without worrying about trying to keep the other two factions above -5, let a lone the -2 required to access agents.

But before I let myself go to "Kill on sight" in those two regions I have some questions:

  • Has anyone done this? Were you happy with your choice or did you bitterly regret it and then spend 3 months on "The Plan" to fix your standings.
  • I would like to run the Gallente and Minmatar Epic Arc quest lines. Do either of these send you into Amarr or Caldari space?
  • If you are really KOS with a faction how bad is it to fly through the space? Is it insta-death or a negligible annoyance?
  • are there any other consequences to making this decision?

Thanks!

If your standings do get low enough you get harassed by the faction cops but they are definitely tankable and most definitely not concord.

You might be surprised at the number of people that have tanked their standings to one faction or another. And not even realized they were doing it.

The entire standing mechanic it one of those things that new players are not told about. It's just one of those things you have to hope is taught you by a corpie as it's not obvious in the least how they work. Or even that they might affect a faction that you didn't even know existed. CCP needs to step up to the plate on this and get something in the tutorial about it. Not a mention in passing, but an actual explanation.

But until that happens we have 'The Plan'.

Thank God for the dedication of people like DeMichael Crimson.

fwiw i had one of my mission runners try faction warfare missions and while the ISK was nice while it lasted, minmatar is down to no zone control now and my standings with amarr are down the toilet. bummer.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I appreciate the responses. I understand some people are unhappy with losing their standings accidentally. What I am most interested is understanding the actual consequences to this. I am contemplating purposely tanking my standings in order to no-longer decline missions and to raise my standing high in Gallente-Minmatar at the cost of Amarr/Caldari

I joined the GalMil and have done level 4 militia missions. My Caldari and Amarr standings are shot. On the other hand, My Gallente standings are, at the time of this writing, 6.84. I've also noticed that when doing missions for the FDU, my SOE standings have also shot up tremendously (above 8.00). Before I joined the GalMil, I did regular Minmatar level 4's to raise my standings with Minmatar to 5.87. It is quite nice being able to do level 4's anywhere in Minmatar/Gallente space. It's also quite nice to not be taxed for market transactions in Gallente space. Do I miss Jita? Hell no! Dodixie is where it's at!

I believe epic arcs send you to all of the four faction's space.

If an empire hates you, and you're going through their space, you better be in a fast frigate or shuttle. Don't auto-pilot. Stay on the ball. Don't fly anything bigger or slower than a destroyer through enemy space. It would be a good idea to avoid security status systems or 0.8 and above as the NPC navies are actually awake in those systems.

Consequences? You might not be able to go to your favorite trade hub, but there are others out there. To be honest, the benefits greatly outweigh the consequences. It's worth it.

The Gallente arc is entirely in Gallente territory. The Minmatar arc could be a problem though. While it doesn't send you into Amarr space, it does mostly take place in Ammatar space, which you will also lose standing with.

As others have said, if you only fly through, NPC navies are mostly a nuisance. Small things can avoid them and big things can usually tank them until you can get away. However, do not linger in a system - if you do remain in space longer than it takes to warp, you can get killed. So, yeah, don't run the Minmatar arc solo if the Ammatar want to kill you.

I don't recommend hauling to Jita when you have Caldari standings under -5.

Someone will suicide gank you eventually - by warp scrambling you until the facpo response is dangerous or deadly. Also, your broker fees at Jita 4-4 will be horrendous.

About this thread topic. If you don't like balancing standings and wanna be 'KOS' with some of the Empire Factions, then just do it. There really wasn't any need to post this thread. Obviously this is a stealth attempt to persuade others into voicing agreement with removing Faction standings which will continue 'Dumbing Down' this game, basically remove consequences for choice of actions..

As for the standings mechanics of this game :
In the beginning for the longest time most players basically settled with being 'KOS' with 2 out of 4 Empire Factions. Over time a few players here and there worked on various strategies to remedy the issue. Eventually 'The Plan' was created which has helped a multitude of players for quite a while now.

Just because you don't like the current standings mechanic doesn't mean you need to slander a perfectly good guide. 'The Plan' doesn't take 3 months to repair negative Faction standings. It only takes a week or 2 at the most. Next time do some research first before posting incorrect statement.

Thanks for the answers. Maybe in my naivete I stumbled onto a sore subject with some. To be clear, I have no issues with the faction mechanics. I just want to understand the consequences to being KOS with 2 factions. The response from Thomas above regarding the epic arcs are exactly the sort of information I am looking for. I have used "The Plan" in the past to help raise broken factions and I have nothing but respect for the work that was put into assembling that information. I play about 1 hour a day, so yeah, it takes me longer to do what others can do in shorter time.
