I showed this to my gf, who is Chinese, and she says that while the girl in the video is somewhat known around China, she's never heard of this particular song / video, and doesn't know anybody else who does (on the other hand, she claims that everybody in China knows "Little Apple").

She then proceeded to add "Please turn that off, I'm starting to feel ill".

Myself, I'm amused by the video and its wanton silliness, I don't see what's so horrifying about it.

It's been mentioned twice, so let's see what "Little Apple" is. Cool

Coincidentally, soon after writing that post, my gf told me someone had just posted the OP video on her Weixin ("WeChat" in the West, a very popular Chinese social network, mixture of WhatsApp and Facebook).

As to "Little Apple", the song itself is a cover of another extremely popular song in China. Every single evening, in cities all around China, large crowds of people gather in parks and other open spaces, setup some sort of improvised music system, and start blasting songs like the one in "Little Apple", while they all perform synchronized dances like the one they do in that video. Quite amusing to watch.

It amazes me that a group of several dozen seemingly random strangers off the street, in many spots around the city, are able to coordinate themselves into performing such synchronized - and often intricate - dances for extended periods of time, and when I ask how they did all learn to do it, they reply "Watching videos on the internet!"
