What this thread and this reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/2hz3ub/roaming_in_battlecruisers_is_horribad/ have in common is that massive increases to EHP are relatively easy for T2-3 cruisers, and BCs, while arguably having almost as much firepower as BSes. The problem is either in the ship designs themselves or in the easy fit/high hp buffer modules.

No it's T2/3 resistances. The same modules don't cause the aforementioned problems in T1, why?

Resistances.

When you have 60% resistance and you add 10,000 HP, you gain 25,000 EHP. When you have 90% resistance and you add 10,000 HP, you gain 100,000 EHP.

Solution: either shrink the T2/3 resistance bonus a bit or shrink their powergrid a bit. If they need so much powergrid to function, why do they need so much resistance? When HACs and strategic cruisers (mainly strategic cruisers) are fitting 1600mm armor plates easily, not only does it demonstrate they have a lot more powergrid than they need, it also is an indicator they don't need high resistances because they are quite capable of fitting a large amount of bonus HP.

Lets say we reduce armor plates to 3-4 HP. Then those extra resistances are much less of an HP gain for HACs and T3 over batterships, eh?

What if HACs and T3 could do, at best, HALF a BS worth in DPS in order to have equal tank to a BS, while the tank they received from HP plate brings them up to equal EHP with a BS? Suddenly, yes, they have the equal tank of a BS, but don't really have the same firepower.

Alternatively, they could pile on the DPS to get at or above BC damage, but not quite to BS damage, while having half of the tank. Naturally, a BC should be more damage than a cruiser innately, while also being more tank but slower, and a BC should be key to countering cruiser sized ships, while BS counter BCs. In practice this doesn't happen.

I warned people when HACs first came out and then mention of T3 that power creep was going to make other ships useless. So many people back in that time knew, and understood the issue with making "bigger, badass ships". It happened anyway, despite the assurance that T3 would be "strategic" somehow, rather than just outright stronger in all regards. The moment HACs came out, T1 cruisers disappeared from fights, and everyone and their mother flew one. Youtube videos of PvP were replete with them. Why could that be possible if they weren't "better" all the way around?

I'm surprised people are just now beginning to understand this after 4+ years.

Don't kid yourselves. Even the dirtiest pirates from the birth of EVE have been carebears. They use alts to bring them goods at cheap prices and safely, rather than live with consequences of their in game actions on their main, from concord to prices
