Certainly bitter sweet. I would've like clone cost used as a way to beef up bounty payouts. Also, this is removing a risk. The cost of replacing your clone after being podded is on par with replacing your ship in terms of risk.

However, after death cloning out to null to light some cynos, forgetting to upgrade while out there, and getting podded....I'm not entirely against the change but I will admit to what it is. A removal of character management, or at least a part of it. A dumbing down of the game to try and cater to a wider audience.

Although it is funny to see some players already starting to change their tune. While before it has been all about 'grrr risk adverse players', it looks as though there is a little less grrr. Just goes to show just how shallow some people's beliefs are to them if they change so easily.

I think this change is great. I always thought, it was wierd putting a tax on your capsule to a variable that increases automatically over time. This enables, older characters to fly smaller and more fragile ships in null. Which is for the best, since it means more ships out in space.

It is not really "dumbing down" the game, since clicking on two buttons can't really be called a "sophisticated game mechanic". But I agree, that in some way, some risk have been removed. But risk shouldn't mean, just paying a higher price the older a character you are.

Risk should be tied to the ship you are flying. The stronger the ship, the more risk you should face when losing it. I'd personally, welcome a skill loss, when titans and carriers are lost, just like the T3.

But let's be realistic here. If this change was actually implemented, we'd have a shitstorm of whining incoming.

Yeah I would expect people's beliefs about a freakin video game to be more deeply held. I still fast for three days before playing Space Invaders!

lol at these "hardcore" vets saying that old school EVE was harsh and unforgiving because you could lose SP if you forgot to update your medical clone, crying that EVE is becoming more like WoW with removal of SP death penalty.
while many pvp oriented games (not sure about WoW since I never played it) have EXP loss every time you die no matter what. there is no magical "update medical clone" button to prevent the loss of EXP which people have to grind for, not like SP which accumulates by itself.
great change in my opinion. removes the annoyance which only hinders gameplay.

ITT a lot of highsec generals who have never rolled in null/W-space.

Or perhaps I missed the "skillfull" way to slowboat a pod out my own bubble P

Or the skillfull way not to be primaried in a dictor the minute your sorry arse appears on the overview.

Nonsense.

The problem with thinking like this is that it assumes that all change is equal (and therefore all players/posters who are on the conservative side of things will oppose all change). It's not true.

This is a good change, which is why you don't see too many people upset about it. It's the exact same as how very few people were upset with learning skills went away, because while learning skills looked good on paper at one point, in practice is was jsut a stupid barrier to actual gameplay.

Same here. many folks have horror stories about losing SP on pod death (mine is called GALLENTE CARRIER V) that then either prevented them from doing something cool or made them wary of doing anything at all.
Hell, I once missed a Titan kill because I had to redock to upgrade my clone only to realize that I didn't have any isk (transferred it all to my jita alt to buy some stuff to ship out to null). By the time I logged on an alt to get the isk to upgrade my clone, my fleet and the bridge Titan were gone.

NO ONE bangs to drum of "EVE should be EVE" harder than I do, but even I think this change is long overdue.

The clone mechanics change is irrelevant. The most important thing is lag and TIDI (no1 enemy of an ejoyable EVE Online). Last night I took part ( for the first time in my EVE history of 2 years) in a sov null fight in U-QVWD, lag spread its venom everywhere, and then in the staging system, TIDI destroyed my imaginary big juicy heroic fights with capital ships and all that sheep. It was not important for me to loose or to win the fight, nor my implants or SP, instead was critically important to enjoy a game that can offer big fleet fights in a normal client/server behavior, like small gang fights or 1v1 duels. I was very disappointed , suddenly when TIDI hit the game it was not anymore the grandiose EVE Online MMO best game of the 20XX , but it was a broken game, a FMMO= Failed Massively Multiplayer Offline game. I thought "how can the other guys like this sheep ?" How can anyone like a game that is broke in one of its most advertized features, in that of Massively Multiplaying fleet fights? I think the most important thing that CCP should do, is to fix up EVE Online as a real MMO, so that the players can enjoy 1k or 2k or 3k or xk pilots in local system fights as they do in 1v1. Everything else is not important anymore.

let me guess: next reason to not jump to rifter would be implants? Cool

Pfft. Anyone serious about PvP has a blank jump clone for just such occurances. Implants were never really a consideration except for the training fixated people. The real hangup was your clone costing literally 200 times the cost of your fitted frigate.

I think it's a good idea. I rage-quit a number of years ago and self-destructed my pod a bunch of times. I am now re-training level 5's that I had before I quit.

One more thing I would like to see is cyber-insurance for implants. If I could insure my implants I would splurge on a complete set of +5's in a second. I don't think I would be the only person doing this either, and for this reason I think cyber-insurance would add a lot more flavor to the game than the old medical clone system did. You know the biggest thing that makes me fearful of PvP is losing my implants, even more so than my ship. I think this would change how a lot of people play...

I've always loved the risk in Eve don't get me wrong.

I never liked the medical clone thing though. It's like forgetting to save in other games; kind of a harsh penalty. (Back in the days before autosave..)

I've never lost SP, gotta keep it up till Rhea launches! Pirate

Clone costs have always been meaningless and it's implants that cause players to stay docked. This change does almost nothing and they should have looked at removing learning implants instead.

It's not only the cost though, it's the remembering.
