Color me unshocked. I am somewhat interested in the stats involved though. How much SP has been lost to the mechanic over the years, where and by whom?

I want to get out in front of this thread a tiny bit just by saying why we are doing this:

While EVE is about consequences for your actions, we believe the current medical clone system does not offer any real choices. It is simply a tax on your character based on your risk level and your character age.

It isn't interesting currently, it's acting as a disincentive for gameplay we want people to engage in, and it's very frustrating when you forget to pay the tax and lose training time.

Clones are a very important part of EVE and we would very much want a good system built around them but we don't want that to prevent us from getting a bad system out of the way as soon as we can.

Hope you guys are as excited as I am - Thrashers here I come.

edit: no, we aren't reimbursing any past losses (can you imagine the paperwork), sorry.

Yea, I really want to emphasis that for us this opens up the ability for us to do something more, cooler, better with clones. As CCP Terminus said, this is just the first step. :D

Another point of clarity, this change removes the SP loss from pod death. Tech 3 skill loss is still a thing.

Maybe we'll see clone cost being based on the attributes available or some sort of training multiplier, plus players being able to "build" clones... Pretty good news regardless.

CCP has no sense of humour.

And people with highskill points immediately rejoiced and jumped into Rifters

Will I get banned for boxing!?!?!

OP has said what we will not have. What WILL we have? Will the new clone be automatic? What will it cost? Something else? How is the med clone system going to work?

As for actions have consequences: You still lose your implants, or have to handicap yourself by using a clean clone. Decisions, decisions.....

Sweet. I just lost 1.7 mil SP b/c I forgot to update my clone the other week.

Kinda sucked.

I wonder what CCP has planned...

Yeah. I love rifters but it kind of sucks when your clone costs almost 30 times as much as your ship.

So it seems like every idea is really to promote more danger by removing the desire to hide from it. More space battles, more explosions, more loot, and more kills.

The future looks bright.

I don't mind this change as such but I still think that dying should be painful otherwise people will just use their home station like a call of duty respawn point.

To make this fair, lets see the cost of implants skyrocket!

Or have it that without the single band clone insurance you are perma dead if someone kills you.

Lets keep brutal and beautiful and have perma-death for people without clone insurance.

Don't take me too seriously though, I like to tease a bit on the forums, but that's only because I love you...

I would have been happy with just cheaper clones for vets, but this is ok too.
