Just looking at the numbers on that API and it's slightly counter intuitive.

What does it count exactely?

Stargate activations? System entry? Leaving system? Both?

How about Jump Bridges? Jumps? Wormholes? How are they calculated?

Is there a better way than Map\Jumps to get an idea on the last hour of traffic in a system?

It's how many entered or left the system by gates and no there is not anything better except maybe map/Kill for activity Blink
