I mean, you heard that they're brightened up the nebulae in Eve with Phoebe, right? What do you think precipitated that change? Icelandic winter is obviously impacting game design decisions!

Apparently pipigeons can recognize patterns in the same way,
if the peck th ground twice and then turn left just before you feed them they're likely to believe that's what got them Fed.

Relevant...maybe.

Personally I Hate birds, much prefer cats.
they eat birds.

Smartass reply: I didn't want it to outstand from the GD average!

Not so smartass reply: but, but... aren't we all having fun?

Serious reply: no, this is not a troll. The idea is just en ellaboration on Ripard Teg's analysis on the success and impact of past expansions, which is where I noticed the seasonal trend.

Admittedly I've been too lazy to check for potential official reports by the Icelandic or Norwegian governments about the impact of sunlight on the productivity of foreign employees (if they exist).

But then, this IS General Discussion. It's not as if anything would change no matter what evidence I produced, right? What?

That would be funnier if my eyes were healthy. But they are not healthy, and this new change has made the game more uncomfortable to play.

I have quite a bit of nostalgia for the pre-trinity graphics. I think the game looked pretty okay for something released in 03.

I really miss the shield bubble effects. I mean it is cool that the shield graphics hug your ship now, but man, I miss the old way. also even being able to see armor effects is probably a good thing. Not to mention the old black CNR with the big nasty launchers built in.

When I was on the CCP HQ tour earlier this year one thing I noticed about there offices and work stations that I would not of expected was how low the lighting levels were set for the most part. It is how I like to game at home, dimmer lights, more relaxed environment, I doubt they notice the change of the seasons much from inside the building.

As for our Canadian Sunshine, don't you dare try to steal it, we barely get enough of it as it is.

I will be sure to make sure we send some extra Winter South of the border this season too, we get far too much of that as it is and there is always extra to share with our Southerly neighbors.

Yes CCP beware, because after over 10 years in business we all know not winter has ever set upon this earth, therefore, you are not prepared....

Hey, isn't Global Footwarmer GoreManPig thingy supposed to remove winters already? When's that supposed to happen? Come on Al Gore, you must save CCP and end winter soon!!!

We need a giant space mirror to redirect sunlight from unimportant people to the offices at CCP!

Does Canada use sunshine for anything? We can take theirs.

yet i can't help but notice your not actually denying it maybe the op is on to something.

after all a recent medical study shows that working shifts that vary between mornings, afternoons and nights is likely to result in a reduction in brain power ( http://www.cityam.com/1415098886/regularly-working-late-night-or-early-morning-reduces-intelligence-and-it-takes-five )

with Iceland it varys a lot due to it being so far north December the 21st only gets 4 hours of daylight must be interesting to watch a sun set at like 9am yet apparently not good for your brain

and with it taking upto 5 years to fully recover imagen how great eve would be if they relocated to Madrid or Rome

As a matter of fact, the issue is with daylight hours.

So short that it could be its own TL;DR, the fact is that there is a pattern of different quality of past expansions, depending on when they were developed. Summer expansions, developed during winter, used to be weaker than winter expansions, developed during summer. The pattern of "meh / wow" is quite noticeable: Incursion (wow) Incarna (MEH) Crucible (wow) Inferno (meh) Retribution (wow) Odyssey (meh) Rubicon (wow)

As CCP relies on foreign talent, and weather in Iceland is quite extreme in terms of daylight hours, there could be a external cause to the different performance, with shorter days in winter leading to poorer performance. And now with several releases to be started/completed during winter, maybe would be wise to be extra careful and don't do anything (too much) irreversible. Blink

Thus, I would advise CCP Seagull one thing: winter is coming! Ugh

Shut. Up.

Winter is bad for CCP because it gets even more unbearably cold up there. I don't know how you guys live in sub 30C temperatures.

Although light therapy can lessen the occurrence of SAD and other light deprivation conditions there is no replacement for natural light, or so says the science.

So cope, maybe. Be at peak productivity and creativity, doubtful.
