Sorry, don't like it. Don't want it. How do I turn it off, please? Ugh

Well, that didn't last long did it...

You can't. Besides it's not like it's in the way or distracting.

Now what I would like is a shortcut for the damned D-Scan again...

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

You can, there's a pop up window for it in which you can deselect the categories it displays manually, or all of it at once.
Just can't recall off the top of my head exactly how I got it to open up and at work, so cannot duplicate til I get home.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

I did try that, it works to an extent. You still have the rotating compass (without the colours) and doing this also removes them from the camera overlay itself. Which I suppose helps since all the new overlay does is overlay the previous overlay which is already quite apparent without extra colours on top. :/

I can appreciate others may enjoy it or not find it distracting. For me personally, it's very intrusive. It rotates down the bottom and distracts. Not to mention a 2D compass in a 3D space... well I won't go there. ;)

I think it'd have been far more appropriate to allow further customisation for such a feature.

Even turning the pop up window "off", the compass "ring" is still around the edge of the capacitor, I'm assuming that's what he means...

It's a tiny ring around the capacitor how the hell is that intrusive? It takes up around 1:50th of the screen space.

If it's distracting you, I bet you're the kind of person that get's distracted by shiny things like a magpie? (That's mean light heartedly before you go off on one).

When you are a single person engaging multiple players at once everything you are not use to seeing is a distraction. Awareness is a biatch in this case since it distracts me immediately making me think I need to focus on a another target.

Will get use to it though like every change that has occurred. Adapt or die.

It's intrusive because I don't want it there and it interferes with the rest of my overview which is customised to my preferences, up until now.

Your intent can be as lighthearted as you like, that doesn't change the effect.

I guess I'm slightly biased, I've kinda gotten used to it somewhat already. 9-10 times I'm looking at my overview and modules damage rather than at the capacitor and the spinning doesn't bother me too much.

Moot point however for people like the OP unfortunately, as there is no way to turn it off.

(My mate saw it earlier and the first thing he said was "Ooooh they made the HUD fabulous"...)

That's fair enough, but I don't see how it interferes with your overview when as far as I know, it doesn't actually do anything to your overview... (Does it? If it does something to the overview I have yet to experience it...)

I will say this, wouldn't this have been better to put in the original feedback thread for the patch rather than start a new topic however? It will probably get seen there.

EDIT: There are a fair few people in that thread saying what you are saying by the way, so it's not just you. But unfortunately you will just have to suck it up. I personally don't see the issue with it.

There is a way to turn it off

Click on the compass, a box should appear.
Click on each type that you want off. (Click on all if you want them all gone)
Simple as that.

If you want them to stop appearing in space
Click on the compass, a box should appear.
Click on the green eye top right of the box.
That will leave the compass working, and stop them from appearing in space.

Yay! Someone had to say it! It had to be YOU. Whoopee. You don't like it. I'll alert the media. Turn it off by Alt+F4.

I wonder how many dev hours were spent thinking it up, coding it, testing it ... all for a pointless added feature that no-one was asking for and does squat to most game play ... time and money that could have been spent on stuff that is actually wanted by the playerbase?

(comment applicable to several other UI 'advances' over recent years actually)

anyway ... that's my only bug against it. Now I've turned it off, more or less, I can get back to the game, so the thing itself it not a irritation. Just the wasted effort in it's development.

I'm sorry you find it useless.

I like the compass effect, and had I thought of it first, I'd have asked for it. Kudos to CCP for thinking up a feature I wanted before I even knew I wanted it!

Thanks for not sourcing features, or the lack thereof, from this guy. :)

That's cool. Glad you find it useful. Lol It's funationality though was kind of there before (via map), this just bring it into main view. Effectively a shortcut.

And, I'm no person to source features from - I'm the most indecisive person ever. lol

You can add it back. In the shortcuts menu, I changed the probe scanner to be alt+P, and D-scan to be alt+D.

So. When does your game release? With your level of expertise in how people should spend their time and resources, it should be the ultimate MMO! We can't wait!

Actually Tom, the ability to have your bookmarks (among other things) show up in space and be easy to orient on has been asked for repeatedly over the years.

They did their best to come up with a practical way to visualize this that was useful but not overly obtrusive, and I'm pretty sure they knew that no matter what they came up with there would be a handful of people who have no need or desire to locate things around their current solar system quickly.

I'm afraid you may just have to take cold comfort in the fact that what is a minor irritation for you is actually pretty damn handy for the rest of the player base. Smile
