PvP Learning Curb - FW or RvB?

Hello,

I've been playing EvE off and on for a year and a half. I initially started out with exploration and went straight to Null Sec and lived there for a while and made some Isk. During the summer I joined a FW Corp (Caldari) and started PvPing. I had done my research but I'm more of the hands on type. Due to my corp (very transient and inactive) I didn't get much into fleets and I wouldn't exactly call myself a social butterfly so I would go solo plexing in frigates. I tried a bunch and got killed spectacularly but have hit a wall now.

On one hand I don't necessarily mind the deaths as long as I continue learning from them, but I feel my opponents are just so much more experienced and knowledgeable and I'm finding it harder and harder to take away anything from my 10-30 second frigate battles. Another concern is that my Kill/Death ratio is starting to spiral into a depressing state and I imagine I'll be snubbed by most PvP centered Corps by continuing down this path, if not already.

I'm curious as to what direction any vets (bitter or otherwise) would go in my situation? Continue getting owned in FW PvP hoping for growth while searching for a potential new FWCorp? Or join RvB? I hear they're a solid fit for teaching noobs the basics.

Thanks.

Any corp that would refuse you entry just because your k/d ratio is terrible wouldn't be worth joining anyway. If you die a lot that means that you are out there a lot and going into fights a lot. That's probably the best you can do being relatively new and/or inexperienced. So I wouldn't worry too much about that as long as your kb shows proper fits. If you die a lot while stabbed up to your neck, well that's kind of your own fault and it's time to start flying proper fits instead of gimping yourself in order to just farm iskies from plexes.

Nobody will also blame you if you leave FW and join RvB for a while. A lot vets do that pretty much on regular basis when they feel bored or burned out in whatever they currently engage in. I would try it and see if you can get sth out of it. If not look for corps that do what you are interested in, a lot of those out there eager to take newbies and train them into killing machines.

But no matter what you do remember that nobody will hold your hand and whether you will get better or not depends on your own ability to learn. Frigate pvp is hard because it's so fast paced that it's hard to keep up to notice pivot points where you could do sth differently and get advantage. But it's also a thing we all had to do and sooner or later there will be your "aha!" moment when pieces will fall into place and you start noticing patterns and understand what and why matters in fights.

I would say keep trying and see how it goes. And whether it's FW or RvB or anything else is really irrelevant since in the end it all comes to you.

FW is mostly about (ab)using FW specific game mechanic faggotry, RvB is a more "general" kind of PVP and is pretty much "PVP with training wheels" and as such probably better/easier to get into it all.

1 thing:

RvB is newb friendly....not a teaching community.

So if you join RvB expecting classes or people explaining stuff. Look at Agony BASIC classes for that.
RvB is just about PvP not more, not less....

Your biggest opportunity for take away after the frigate goes boom is to try and talk about the fight with your opponent.

Safe up or dock ( you have insta undocks for the systems your learning in in low sec, right? Hint hint )
And start up a convo in local or a private channel.

A lot actually happens in frigate fights and one mistake can seal the fight. Your opponent may have seen it better than you.

Talk to them, you may even find yourself roaming with them and their gangs in the future if neither of you are twats.

Those are not your only options. For instance, I've heard good things about Brave Newbies. Might want to have a look at what they're offering.

There are also...other ways, to enjoy pimp juice while learning pvp in the comfort of hisec, without granting killrights or losing sec status.

RvB isn't a teaching environment per se, but you can still learn a lot there. Rather than filling up corp chat with endless questions about basic stuff, ask if anyone is willing to answer some noob questions in a private channel. I absolutely guarantee you that someone will. If no one does, Eve-mail me and I will. If nothing else, we try to be a helpful environment. After all, more than anything we want our members to have fun.

It's also quick and easy to join with the Blues or Reds. No need to take a class with Agony (although they are really good at what they do), no need to deal with Brave Newbie nullsec stuff.

Honestly, I wouldnt go with either one - rather I would try and find a player mentor to school you in the game. But if the choice is rvb vs fw, I think I would probably do rvb first as its a more stylistic form of pvp which is imo more newbee friendly.

As for your kvd ratio - dont worry about it. We all started bad. I lost my very first cyclone because I was living in a highsec pocket at the time and flew it unfit through lowsec (unscouted) because I had mods at my home station and wanted to save some isk. Shyte happens.

I don't play, I just fourm warrior.

Last I checked RvB had a specific channel for new bros. It's probably on their forums somewhere, or you can ask about it in corp chat. Can't remember the name off hand.

I don't think FW really favors new pvp pilots as much as people say. If you sign up to bolster the losing side, you really can't cash in any LP even to keep yourself in frigates.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I think you have to be on the leading team if you don't plan on leaving the warzone every time you need to isk up and rearm. Granted, I've only been at this for two days, but I'm pretty sure I've been sold a bill of goods. Even if I move to the gallente front, I still get useless TLF scrip.

I think I see why people are defecting if they can't even get us ammo.

If Isk isnt a problem go Brave Newbies or RvB although you have been doing it the best way. Loosing ships is the second most fun thing in EVE.

From a newbies perspective I prefer FW as I go out hunting, make some isk and shoot stuff if it comes up.
