I want to start a small private POS in a WH for mining.

As far as mining in wormholes, I wouldn't take in a Hulk or anything big like that without a group to support you. Ventures are cheap and have two points of warp core stabilization. Even if you are paying attention you could still get alpha'd off the field before you can warp, but at least it's not much of a loss. As King Aires pointed out, you'll be mining in anoms and that means you won't have the warning of seeing probes on scan.

I would also say that mining sites are limited and if you want to mine exclusively you'll have to do so in the wormholes connected to yours also. The sites only stay up for 24 hours after you warp to them so try not to kick any until you are ready to work them real hard.

As for mining in a wh

1 do gas first for this a venture is fine

2 do not use a venture for ore sites use a retriever or coveter, and collapse your statics any other wh first before you do watch dscan and also probe scan while mining. JC mine if in coveter and have a large hauler for the pick up you will see individual rocks of 1 mil m3 and only have 3-5 days for the site once you open it.

3 remember sleepers spawn within 30 min of first warping

4 with only 3 characters in I would not mine with more that 1 character as if you are all out mining and a dictor gets in without you noticing you are going to loose everythin

5 collapsing wh will be hard with only 3 characters see #4

6 I would recommend looking for any other class with a c2 static the static is what you use to run sites for income also see #4 when scouting your chain also. So in your current case null sec is your source of income.

Moving into a WH for the purposes of mining is a bad idea to begin with.

Could you explain a little better? There is some really big rocks in there.

There is a whole host of reasons, but we will get to that.

First I will say I have lived in WH most of my EVE career. I love it for many reasons, and if the drive to do this is because you really want to live in WH space by all means go for it.

Also, if you want to enjoy all WH space has to offer including mining, then go for it.

But if you are thinking a WH will just be a better, more profitable way to mine than HS, you may be disappointed.

There are a number of reasons living in a WH ONLY to mine is a bad idea (IMO).

1. You need a POS. Really medium or large is the only appropriate option, especially if you plan to compress or refine at the POS. A large POS will cost you roughly 400mil per month and require about 144,000m3 of fuel hauling in each month.

This means your mining operations would have to be more profitable enough to offset the fuel costs. It also adds a bit of logistics in that you have to haul in fuel.

2. Ore anoms in WH's are random. Yes they are large, but once gone there is no guarantee when more will show up. I have had times where I did not see an ore site in our WH for weeks at a time. Additionally, while they have some of the high end ores, the bulk is the lower end ores, so overall you may not see a huge increase in isk/hr mining in a WH overall.

3. It is hard to mine securely in a WH. As others have mentioned, you really want to collapse any open WH connections. Even then a new connection can form any time so you have to be diligent. Given the new spawn mechanics a fast team can be on top of you before you catch the new connection showed up. Other days you may find your WH is like swiss cheese, full of WH connections, so it is unpractical to try and close them all.

4. Ok so you have mined like crazy. Now you have a lot of stuff, whether it be ore, compressed ore, or minerals. Now you have to get it out to sell. Or build stuff and get that stuff out to sell. Either way eventually stuff has to get hauled out. If you are lucky you picked a WH with a HS static. But HS is a big place. Some days you may get an exit near a trade hub. Other days you will be in the middle of nowhere. Yet other days you will be on a HS island. Each day your WH connection is temporary and constrained by how much mass you can put through it. Either way it makes for more convoluted and difficult logistics.

I could come up with even more, but honestly I am tired of typing. This should be plenty to mull over.
