Cdr. Kim,

Your militia has abandoned you. Your leaders have failed you. Your enemies use you as an example. The State itself seems to be wrenching to be rid of you. Surely this is not the life you desire.

I understand that position, Commander. A younger, more impressionable Quattras found his escape from a life he hated on a planet he never called home, into service of the State. Long before I ever found myself in a hydrostatic capsule I served aboard the battleship Gaisho as a security officer.

I won't bore you to death with the details of my service record, but shall suffice it to say that at the end of my career I found myself unceremoniously discarded despite years of loyal service and unquestioning sacrifice to the State and Her Navy - including the sacrifice of my eye. I could have taken this as personal insult, as more than a few before me have done - the infamous Fatal and the Rabbit among them. I could have, but I did not. I found a home for myself, outside the influence of those who wished me ill, in a corp that wouldn't ask uncomfortable questions about my past and simply offered support.

I wish I could extend you an invitation to Stay Frosty - and, in fact, I do - but I know you won't accept. The life we have forged for ourselves sees us caught right in the middle of the ongoing conflict, and there are times at which we must fire upon Caldari capsuleers (not to be confused with their military counterparts) in the course of our operations. I understand the blind hatred and absolute devotion that make that unacceptable to you, as I was once the same way.

Find a new life, Diana. I implore you. There don't seem to be many people left who are interested in seeing you, as an individual, do anything but disappear. You should know that there is at least one person who believes you can find a direction for yourself. Figure out your own agenda, where you want to go in the Universe, and chase your star.

The dedication that you show, and the strength in following it in the face of such adversity, shows that you could do anything you wanted. Don't waste your potential on a State that doesn't even know who it is anymore.

The dream you follow isn't going to happen in the State. In one form or another, the same old stalemate will keep the machines running, so there can be no victory just as there can be no loss.

"All glory to the State!" I get it. I really do, Diana. I devoted my life to that monolith, even after the first time I died in its service, mortal and young and terrified but fighting all the same.

That state, though... It doesn't really exist. Oh sure it did at one time. I feel that within the last 40 or 50 years the Caldari State - as our forefathers had boldly seen it - still existed in some form. But the dealings surrounding the "hand-over" of Caldari Prime to Ishukone with no real change in the war proves it: our shared heritage has been fed to us with this very result in mind: a generation of warriors so hell-bent on destroying one another in pursuit of cultural supremacy that they don't even notice the collaboration going on behind closed doors.

In alliances like A Band Apart you always know what is going on behind the scenes, and the agenda is always pretty clear; usually it centers around survival. You want strong, clear leadership? Well then get your pew on out here, lady! Seriously, put on a damn t-shirt, climb in a Kestrel and blow some stuff up like it's your first time. No one's going to call your hate "zeitgeist" anymore if you just blap anyone who comes in your home system because "I AM DIANA KIM AND I SAID NO!"

Come home, Diana. You're welcome here. Come fly the unfriendly skies.

No.
No.
No.
And for the last one definite NO too.
I am sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Peione, but your information about me is outdated.

And I implore you not to make conclusions about me based on words of enemies of the State, traitors and outcasts, that were hiding in lawless space instead of doing their service to the State. There are, unfortunately, too many capsuleers who were pushed out from the State during the glorious time of Tibus Heth reign. But look at them closely, who were pushed away from the State during this time? Incompetent low class managers, who were failing to do their duties properly and were clinging to their positions only because of their relations and family ties.

Of course they are angry at Tibus Heth, at the State, and at those, who dedicate their lives defending the State, and especially at those, defending Tibus Heth, who was the reason of their mischeif, yet they claim to be "Caldari". I would like to ask you to watch very carefully what they say. They aren't part of the State anymore, they don't serve the State, they are almost gurista now.

Well, thank you for the invitation, but you see, I am still Officer of Caldari State. I am employed by the State and I do my duty to the State and Caldari people. This is actually the whole reason of my existence. All my life is service to the State. Everything I have and ever had belongs to the State, and even for this existence of myself I am obliged to the State.

It doesn't matter if the State knows who I am or does anything for me. The State has gave me more than enough already, and I haven't paid in full for this yet. I am just a simple soldier, but I am content with what I have and with what I do. And... I am not sure I have dreams anymore.

What I do want is rather simple as well. I want to destroy enemies of the State. I want them to disappear. And I do it with my guns. I call out enemies and traitors in the media. I am finding those, who wish our State to be weak and not strong. And I am fighting everything and everyone, who will stand on our way to Victory, with both words and weapons.

And I will continue fighting, until they all will disappear, or until the Maker will take me back. But when it will happen, I hope I will go away with weapons in hands, fighting as Caldari and for Caldari.

Honored are the dead, for their legacy guides us.

Oh wow, this is perhaps the most desperate recruitment pitch I have ever seen. And coming from a non-sensical "dot" merc corporation no less, so void of purpose that they have to measure their sucess with the digits of property value they destroy. Climb on a Kestrel and blow stuff up indeed!

Miss Kim is not just a soldier of the State. She IS the State, a Paragon of everything the State stands for. Honor, merit, loyalty and courage against adversity! Who are you to even suggest Miss Kim is not any of those things? Obviously Miss Kim has value as a pilot, else you wouldn't be spinning these disgusting Gallente-like propaganda remarks about the State not wanting anything to do with her, just so you could recruit her yourself!

Just the thought of seeing Miss Kim turning her back on her beloved State to join a band or faceless mercs... That's just two kinds of wrong!

there is a lot that could be learned by joining a group like that, My last few months various non empire entities taught me a lot about how to fly in more constructed ways, I'm sure it might help you serve your militia better in the long run to open yourself up to branching into other doctrines and styles of combat. I'm not saying join them specifically but it might help you grow your skills from one niche to a broader spectrum, thus able to handle more situations.

First off, Mademoiselle Hydreiga, it strikes me as odd that a Gallente would speak of their own people in such a manner, let alone call into question the motives of anyone looking to pull one of their most vocal enemies away from the conflict. Your actions are highly suspect.

Second, I never called Cdr Kim's piloting skills into question. I am well aware of her impressive record; it is precisely because of this record that I suggested she move on to what some would call bigger and better things.

Third, your dismissal of A Band Apart as "a nonsensical 'dot' merc corporation" is as insulting as it is ignorant. We do not do mercenary work of any sort as an alliance, nor does Stay Frosty as a corp; though our members are free to do so as independent contractors should they so wish. Our ways are hardly nonsensical, we have a well-defined purpose: maintenance of an open, non-partisan marketplace along the Taisy pipeline. Doing so in such hotly contested territory means that we must secure our operations with force against those who would stop it, regardless of affiliation.

I was not attempting to recruit Cdr Kim to "my" corp. The corp is not mine to offer; that honor falls to Rixx Javix or any of our diplo's - folks to whom, if you were as well informed as your fellow respondent, you would be less likely to refer as "faceless mercs."

Cdr Kim would, of course, be welcome - as are all applicants not already in bad standing. But our operations cause us to occasionally come into conflict with State militia-aligned capsuleers, a duty she would find... distasteful. I already stated as much. There are, however, corps and alliances similar to ABA that are friendlier to the Commander's proclivities and would provide, as Ms Vess so eloquently stated, insight into new doctrines and styles of combat.

Furthermore, to insinuate that any one individual IS the State, is to downplay the importance of the balance of power (between megacorps-as-government-proxy) that exists within the State. While I have my issues with the current state of affairs in my homeland, it is still my home and, as a rather brutish fellow once said to me, "them's fightin' words." I am quite certain it isn't your intent to foment ire where none yet exists. Quite certain.

Also: what in the ancestors' name is a "dot" corporation?

An FNA grad who comes to the defense of a xenophobic, irrational and genocidal maniac like Kim...makes my head spin. Pilot Hydreiga you do realize that if it were up to Kim you (and every other Gallentean) would either be killed or enslaved, yes?

You defending Kim-baka makes as much sense as me starting a group called Matari for Voluntary Enslavement by the Amarr.

The State is alive and well - my own recent period of being forced to live outside it proved that to me. It can be found where the State has always been - in the Corporations.

I've had most of the idealistic corners knocked off me in my year and a half of service. I no longer believe that the State gets everything right, or that the State is the only viable form of government and society, but it is still what it once was. Better for Heth's reintroduction of Meritocracy. Better for shaking off Heth's drive to centralise and nationalise it.

If you want to know what the State is, there's nothing better than getting out and discovering what the State isn't.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.
