At 11:00 the cluster automatically goes into VIP mode, kick everyone off and then starts processing the shutdown (mostly finalising persisting state). Once shut down daily database scripts are run (some are run shortly before downtime, such as fleet fight dedication requests are mapped prior to downtime), the server then autostarts and is generally available between 11:06 and 11:08.

You're forgetting.. those are the normal days.. days where they'd deploy 'something' would be the kind of days they announced so you could set a week/month long skill in case something went wrong... which happened on more than one occasion.

That was looked at but determined to not be cost effective, in the end they hired a single cat to chase the hamsters to increase their speed. You may have seen him on Eve TV in the past and goes by two names. Either CCP Kitteh or CCP Tournament Cat. I have seen CCP Tournament Cat post on the forums before, maybe he can pay a visit.

I drain ducks of their moisture for sustenance.

It's a special mode where VIP card holders get to log in and party with CCP before the servers are back up. Much unbridled frivolity.
