Faster scanning/probing

Hi all. I've been away for a few years and missed the odyssey scan update. I played around with it yesterday and it seeme ok. Only thing is resizing the probes. I used to alt or shift (it's been a while so I can't remember which) plus scroll wheel and it would resize all the bubbles nice and easy. No I have to drag on screen or highlight all in scan window and right click etc.

Is there still a way to do this?

Also any shortcuts etc that people know of are much appreciated. I used to be pretty quick with the old style of scanning due much to the hot keys and short cuts. Now, although only scanning one system, it seems slower and flows less.

Click on of the bubbles and resize. It will resize all of the probes at same time. Hold shift to resize specific probes

CCP'd design intention for scanning revamp was to remove any benefits from player and character skills, and turn it into a tedious and useless, but mandatory time sink.

I regularly scan with a lvl III character with T1 launcher and probes in a Prowler, or an unbonused Proteus, because logging in my all Vs scanner in maxed out covops brings no meaningful benefits whatsoever.

Add corp bookmarks and mobile depot, the fact that you can't lose probes and signatures that automagically appear to the list without probes to that and you'll quickly realize that scanning as a vital aspect of wormhole space and it's risks has been completely ruined. You can't get trapped and everyone scans just as fast with the same amount of probes and formations.

If wormhole signatures were all turned into anomalies, nothing interesting or challenging would be lost.

Complete nonsense. You seem to scan only your static if you don't notice a difference in speed. While it is indeed possible to scan down any signature with any ship equipped with any probes, there are huge differences in how fast that process goes. That difference of course becomes more significant if you scan hundreds of signatures per week.

It takes the exact same amount of scan passes, only real difference is in scan cycle duration, which is small enough to be irrelevant.

Yes, there used to be a difference, a huge difference. Not anymore.

This really isn't true. With higher skills and a bit of skill you can reduce the number of scans per signature and therefore time taken. With a high Astrometric Pinpointing skill you can "skip" levels by reducing your probes by two or more ranges at a time.

Some people just suck at probing^^
It is a lot faster.... if you know how.

That's weird. I feel a massive gap between my all V scanner in her bonused hunting tengu without scanmods and my scanner with a scanrigged/modded helios. It's like day and night even on that end not to mention using a virtue clone, which again is a completely different story. Also m8, your prowler would have a sad time scanning out the c2-static in your c5.

The cycle time duration for acquisition V is amazing. 10s or 5s with 2 scans for each sig in system makes the difference between 3mins and 5mins of scanning with 10 sigs.

There is quite a difference with an all L5 scanner but compared to a char with mostly L4, some L5 skills in a rigged covertops and a char with L3/4 skills in a prowler the difference is a lot less noticeable unless you compare them side by side.

Having played around with it a bit more today in a few c5's, I guess overall it is faster in terms of launchin, preset formations, draging etc. it does however feel slightly less fun and made more user friendly for lazy people. Was it really so hard to hold down alt or shift when moving things around...

I still miss the alt and scroll probe range adjust though. Was no need to remove it. Just felt smoother than click and dragging..

Stop, just stop.

Spouting useless factually untrue information is both unhelpful to someone asking a legitimate question and damaging/counter-productive to our collective goal of more people in w-space.

Scanning skills make a huge difference multiplied by the amount of time and frequency your scanning chains.

I think he just forgot to add "in high sec" to the beginning of his post.
