There is a player out there who is trying to con people out of their hard earner Isk.

The player's name is Sierra Skyy.

Yesterday he/she had a bio on their profile, (now seemingly removed) that claimed to be offering people free ISK from their corporation - Mining Missioning and Cargo Security Services.

Unfortunately, I fell for this con, did the required keystrokes and found that I'd just donated 45,051,172.98 ISK to them.

I do feel a bit pissed off about this, (yeah, I know - caveat emptor - trust me, I have already beaten myself up on this one) and I'm wondering if I can do anything about them?

Suggestions? Offers of help appreciated.

No need to reply with **** taking emails that berrate me, trust me I feel like a mug anyway right now.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. When I die, all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

I commend your honesty, posting with a main and all.

There are scams all over, careful about those. Typically if it has to do with putting your iskies in someone elses hands, don't do it. Ever. Lots of scams out there.

Want revenge? It's going to take work. Get a scan ship, and start spying. Day in day out. Track log in hours. Try to figure out who the alts / mains are. Figure that out and start figuring out what they fly. Get intel on them, both in and out of game. (Telling someone their home address tends to freak people out)

Take notes. Use the internet to your advantage. Get to know your enemy. If you want to go all out, make a new account just for the job. Get it training. Track these people and follow them into their next alliance. Work your way up the ranks and crush them. (Seems cheesy / impossible, but its not.)

TL;DR - Dust yourself off and keep moving forward.

Thanks for your reply Vandy.

I guess I posted the story of what happened to me because, like I wrote, I do feel a bit stupid for having fallen for it.

Hopefully my experience will help others avoid being taken in by the nasty little object who conned me.

I think dusting myself off and moving forward is probably the best policy too.

I am interested in what these 'required keystrokes' were that managed to end in you handing over isk. Either you made a very silly mistake or there is some sort of exploit going on. If you mail me a little bit of information I will investigate and it's possible the whole thing is petitionable and you can get your hard earned ISK back.

Is this an attempt to make people feel sorry for you so they will send you isk perhaps? LOL You're a 2008 toon. Most likely an alt. There is no way you fell for this. Just a nice guy trying to help look out for others since you lost everything? LOL 2008 45 mil should be a joke to you.

Sounds to me like the "Right click here and click give money, then type -99999999999 then type 999999999999, remember it has to be exactly 12 9's, then click ok. You will get 1 billion isk!"

If the deal is based on "trust", you can always get burnt, sympathies however and thanks for warning others.

As to the revenge advice given, have fun there, however be careful with the use or transmission of any personal information it can contravene item 19 of the terms of service: "You may not communicate, post or publicize any subscriber’s personal information within the EVE Online game world or website."

Hope you may use this opportunity as a learning exercise and perhaps an opportunity for some purpose as recommended. Some interesting parties in this forum may be able to assist with this, should you feel that way inclined, and assuming you can find a legitamate affordable service to your taste and wallet. Research here into various sources and forum posts may help of course.

I've seen this person's bio before, and considering that the whole catch is that he's "advertising" a method of getting "infinite" ISK by means of exploiting the game, you got exactly what you deserved. Obviously there isn't any actual exploitation going on, but the scam itself is on the same level as the classic "go to this link to download a trainer" variant.

1. You're willing to exploit the game for your own gain, even if you're unable to do so in practice.
2. You're an idiot.
3. You shouldn't get any pity due to both 1 and 2. I hope it takes you another 3 years to make back that 45 million.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Ahahahahaha, if it really is that one then that's funny. I haven't been to any trade/mission hubs for a long time and had forgotten about it. Using peoples own greed against them never fails to amuse when it works out.

I was not expecting much sympathy and, like I wrote in my original post, (had any of the trolls above actually read it before posting their replies) "I have already beaten myself up on this one ... I feel like a mug".

Either way, I was not requesting, not expecting anyone to send me any ISK. To accuse me, therefore of trying to con people, (I'm not as to exactly how I was doing this based on what I wrote) is without any shred of foundation and it is baseless and pretty nasty. Exactly like the kind of thing an online troll would write in fact. Quid mirum.

Just for the record, I genuinely didn't think I was 'exploiting the game' to get infinite ISK. The offer made was not for anywhere near an infinite amount anyway, it was for a fixed amount. From this person and their corporation. End of story.

And no it won't take me anywhere near three years to build up the money again Destiny, it's an annoyance, nothing more.

Whether or not the trolls here believe any of this is pretty much out of my control and frankly I don't care. I do however don't like being slandered online and this is why I have posted a response.

I know, in my heart, that the truth is that I was posting the information here just to be helpful to other players and that is all that matters to me ultimately.

It seems to me that you don't really understand what trolling is, Mudkip. Do not confuse trolling with malice; the latter being the emotion I'm feeling toward you right now. If it wasn't for people such as yourself, our inboxes wouldn't be full of spam.

Now that we got that out of the way, would you like to buy a tax trick from me? For a small fee, I'll teach you how to fill out the forms in such a way that the IRS (or whatever your third-world equivalent is) will send you a fat check every year. Infinite money, from the printing press straight into your wallet, bro, guaranteed.

In case anybody is curious about that scam:

if you paste an arbitrary string into the ISK field in the "give money" dialog everything not a number gets stripped.

5uperS3kr1tC0d3 would for example convert to 53103

The scam is to give people some secret 1337sp34k "codeword" that they have to paste into the dialog to receive free ISK.

Hopefully they won't understand what happens when that codeword turns into a number (helps to sell it as an exploit to get around that point) and hit Enter anyways.

It is hard to sympathize with the "victims" of this scam.

Actually it was nothing to do with inputting code strings to get free ISK, it was to do with contracts.

On the advice of another player, and having thought through what happened myself, I've submitted a petition since what actually happened sounds like an exploit rather than a straightfoward con. We'll see what CCP say.
