Issues, Workarounds & Localization

Last night my self and my Corp mates scanned down this cormarant and did unto him a hilarious amount of violence, was over quickly ,
however half way through the engagement he disappeared from our collective overviews for a few seconds (long enough for a quick exchange of "wtf!" "Where's he gone, did he PoP!?") Before appearing again in the same place and state, though requireng us to re lock to continue applying (our frankly obscene amount) dps.
This happened again when the ship poped, no pod appeared for a few seconds.

Both carriers were on a station undock (off grid) and had drones on assist which we had engage the target.

One of the fleet dc'd at the time of the cormarant "blip" (central us I think).

Thought it worth mentioning and wondering what the cause of this might be.
