Gate smart bombing

So gate camping with smart bombs up untill now seems very very risk averse. Because of no need to lock they will fit loads of warp stabs. And bumping them out of range is not a good idea.

Cause unless you got 50 people to set on all gates they'll just wait out timer and leave. I mean gateguns are joke in the end.


So yeah my question, is there a counter?

Yes. Off-center boomarks. Also works for bubbles.

That would be running away from the problem and is not a counter. I'm talking about killing them. How could one take them out?

The smartbombs or gatecamping isn't the issue. It's that warp core stabs don't affect smartbombs in any way really.

Try a Heavy Interdictor you will also need a few dps ships. If you are worried about the smartbombs fit the dps ships as snipers and warp in at range. Using the HIC as heavy tackle.

All you need is friends with enough points of warpstrength.

Warpcore stabs are already seriously gimping a ship making it useless for anything else
but smartbombs ... and smartbombs themselves are seriously underpowered,
because the only ships they're really viable on to use are battleships.

And that makes them horribly inefficient, unless you fit officer type smartbombs ...
... which are so costly that they're not worth it.

oddly enough the FW that got the kills are called noobs yet they are the ones that took down a titan and more before the enemy fleet got a reinforcement fleet

- Don't warp directly gate-to-gate (if in low hp ship or pod)
- Make tactical BMs above likely smartbomb gates
- Avoid common locations like Rancer
- Use a scout

1) Follow everyone's advice on avoiding them.
2) If you REALLY want to try and take them out, then maybe try and snipe them at 200km with a few Nagas?

Beat me to it, a single heavy interdictor can prevent them from warping, and with a reasonable fit, kill them before their gate aggression fades, depending on their fit. With the addition of gate guns shooting them, you don't need to pack that much more damage to break through, given that they are fit to tank the guns, but are relying on their warp core stabs, and local intel (watching for blobs) to get away. Another option is to fit multiple scrams; 2 will catch many of the smartbombers, VERY few will have more than 5 WCS so you could go with 3 scrams just to be safe. Orbit them at around 9km, and you'll be out of range of anything but officer smartbombs.
