I can think about more bad things that can happen in Spain, there are common protests and if you will live in a bigger city, you will risk your car being burned or your office windows or trash cans broken. If you live in smaller community, there will be no such things, but with powerty comes crime, so there is bigger risk even in smaller communities. And one more thing, you will have to learn some spanish, as english is not common language is spain, ok maybe in business communities is, but not elswhere really.

Riots with property damage in Spain are fairly uncommon, even in big cities. Cars are never burned, for instance. Countries like France or the United States are much more prone to such events.

Crime in Spain is, again, one of the lowest in all of Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Spain#Crime_statistics) and most of it is related to drug trafficking and abuse. We are the gate into Europe from South America and Africa, so...

Quote:
Crime statistics for Spain are published annually by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística.[1] Different agencies of Spain and the European Union conduct analysis of the crime data in Spain. Statistics show Spain is one of the European countries with the lowest crime rate, according to a 2005 Gallop Europe research study.[2][3][4][5][6] The rate of misdemeanours and crimes in Spain was 46 per 1,000 people in 2009.[7] By 2013 Spain enjoyed one of the lowest crimerates in Europe [8]

Spain is a walk in the park compared to some areas of Paris or London, for instance.

Also, you can get around PERFECTLY without a single word of Spanish. Rememberone of our main sources of income is tourism, and we do it well. Most people you'll ever talk to WILL understand you in English. Of course, interacting with a 75 year old widow in a small backwater rural town might not get you anywhere, but in Fuengirola, English is actually perfectly fine all the time.

I recommend you get yourself a small mopped for commuting, in case you don't feel like buying a cheap car. Depending on buses can be a pain unless it's a major city.

I have read about some protests couple of days ago, so its not. Also there are terrorists in Spain, They have Catalonia problems and Basque country wants to be separate from Spain, this is a couple of serious problems. And this pickpocketing in Barcelona and Madrid, same as in Rome and Paris. You can live in a nice community, and not see everything, but the crime and problems are there.

Utter bull****. There are nationalist parties in those regions, but just like the Flemish in Belgium, the Bavarians in Germany or Venice in Italy. Nothing more, nothing less. Pickpocketing is as much a problem as in all other major European capitals. Just be careful, don't leave your stuff unattended, and you'll be fine.

About this "terrorism", not even worth wasting words on that. Last time ETA killed was in March 2010...and it happened IN FRANCE.

Spain is safe, is fun, and works. Healthcare is top notch as well. Why do you think that we have more than half a million British and Germans living here permanently after retirement?

Real state market has gone down the drain since 2007, so a lot of people who made unwise investments have taken a hit, but if you are coming with a job already, and rent an apartment close to the beach, you're set, man.

It'll be a great experience.

Read this.

It says:

Quote:
Spain is considered a safe destination for tourists and business people

Quote:
Overall crime dropped for all categories of crime except residential burglaries, which rose 3.6%

Quote:

Medical services are comparable to the United States. Dial 112 from any phone to request assistance in a medical emergency. An English speaker is available to assist non-Spanish speakers.

Quote:
the five U.S. consular agencies receive numerous of reports from Americans who are robbed or victimized in a variety of scams.

The same stuff they say about practically everywhere else.

Alrighty. I didn't had the luck on me this time so i didn't manage to get the job now. Well, you can guess when there was waaaay over 100 peoples who had sent in an app to that job, so by hearing that, i kinda knew i didn't had much of a chance.

However, i will get a new chance later one time as this job pops up from time to time here in Norway. So this topic isn't really made for nothing as i can use it for later one time if needed.
