Station Only CEO and Research Alt - Discussion

I am making a list of skills and items for an alt and would like some input into it, since I am still new to advanced industry.

1. The alt will hold a single-man corporation of CEO, he is base skills, will never undock in anything other than a shuttle for now and has corporation management 1 for this purpose.

2. I also have him in a station that is my industrial hub for research and blueprinting, I may setup a POS at some point to use copies, but for the time being I am building my BPO numbers and doing ME/TE on them as I get them in.

The skills I listed for him for Research are:

Advanced Laboratory Operation: This skill builds on Laboratory Operation. For each level of this skill you gain the ability to run 1 additional research job.

Laboratory Operation: This skill lets you use research facilities for copying and researching blueprints. For each level of this skill you gain the ability to run 1 additional research job.

Metallurgy: for each level of this skill you'll get a 5% bonus to material efficiency research speed.

Research: for each level of this skill you'll get a 5% bonus to blueprint manufacturing time research speed.

I am not going to skill Scientific Networking for the time being as I don't need to move this alt around.

I also have the Research implants ready and will need to do Cybernetics to plug them in.

Is there anything else I have missed?

** ADDED: Advanced Industry reduces all research and manufacturing times by 3% per level. \o/!

You'll need Anchoring III to put up a POS. You may want to consider training it to IV and learning Starbase Defense Management too.

Assorted trade skills will likely come in handy if you're doing any direct buying/selling on this character.

If you're going to anchor a POS he'll need the skills to do it, or you'll have to bring someone else into the corp to do it for him. If you explained more clearly what your intention is for this character we could give you better feedback.

You're young, you'll adjust. I'm old, I'll get used to it.

Sure thing, clear this up a bit:

This is my main and I can do just about anything needed, but I don't want to put my main as the "place-holder" for the corp - he will be a director, and then can come and go as needed.

The alt was simply going to be a corporation management 1 CEO place holder, he would sit in my main station and blink... then I figured after I got him set up as needed, I should maybe find something passive for him to do... and R&D seemed to be something I could use more jobs on... at least the research of ME and TE, since I am doing this all on my own and two is better than one - I have a PVP alt but that alt will never really be used for this, even though I do stick it with one ME/TE job for long periods on a non-time critical BPO.

originally I was going to make a JC with research implants (highest) with this one, but jumping in and out wouldn't be practical as I do a few other intensive things with my main... so I figure, use this alt, max him to be my ME/TE for now and then later invention only, lab-slave-minion-CEO.

The skills for POS and Trade my main will work as a director, they are already almost max and I don't even use them to capacity atm... close but still no need for more. The big issue is the hard limit on ME/TE/copy/research jobs in that order - ME/TE being the things that are running full time every day all day as I pack them in. There are a lot of BPOs in the game, and my small collection is being worked up, but more is always better... in the case of jobs.

I figure it's better to keep the actual work of the corporation to the director/main because, the only reason I would use the CEO/figure head to keep it is for some reason I need to jump out of corp for something and don't obviously want it to close down.

Have put up a dual training on the alt, still working on a name for the Corp, but CEO skill 1 is done, and working on:

Laboratory Operation to 5, then Advanced Laboratory Operation 5 following that. that should take the week and a bit more.

I am also looking at Cybernetics 5 in the mix for research implants.

Since this toon is doing station spinning and ME/TE research jobs to start - I am thinking of the following implants:

RR-6
MY-7
SC-8/BX-8 (prob the BX-8)

I don't see any other implants that will improve the job I have set here. unless I missed one.

Again this is stricktly a ME/TE job alt for the time being - so any implants I might have missed?

Speaking from experience, I have found it incredibly useful for my research alts to be able to fly transport ships. Yes, your intention right now would be to keep this guy in station and never undock -- but, should you opt to expand to a POS, want to move, need to grab some moon moats, whatever, being able to do so anywhere, anytime is oddly useful. I have more characters trained into transports than literally any other ship type (save the prereqs for the same, of course). It's a bit of a haul skill-wise but I'd consider it.

Note that this can also open up a basic station alt to PI which, if nothing else, is decent semi-passive income.

As for your core plan? I think you have it covered at this point. Moving into invention is skill intensive at the start but you seem to know that already.

Yes, I may do that down the road, I am one account though at the moment so this isn't a full on alt - I have all three slots being used, but only one online at a time.

So passive for this one is the starting - and yep I have done this with my main about 75% but it was more skill training online then intentional, and only now with the UI change have I gotten into it successful due to the removal of slots - which was the barrier for me.

Anyway, the Alt is still on track, 4Ds and I have Lab 5, then Adv. in so many more - after that will see what else comes up... I plan at start of just putting my long-term ME/TE on him and that way I can just log in so often to check them.

... now if I can just come up with an inspired name for my corp - I will be golden. Blink

What your doing is a great way to earn extra isk, perhaps train some basic scanning skills.
This way you can run data sites in the system with him to grab science related items like datacores and even blueprints.

Well the issue with that is that I have only one account - this is just to make use of the other two slots to do something passive that doesn't need logging in - while I am on my main which is 5 years along.

So what I want is basically:
Passive actions that I already do on my main, but want to 2x and 3x the amounts - industry slots are a main one since 11 slots is nice, but why not have 22 or 33 jobs all going at once... then you have 1/2 other characters doing this while your online and while your main is doing this as well and other things.

I may do a guide on this at some point, at the moment I am thinking I should after the lab skill, throw some +3s on it for speeding up the skills, ultimately I will want cyber 5 for the R&D implants - so it's not wasted training as it will be handy, and +3s aren't much.

Once you've got the researcher skills down another easy passive isk maker is PI alt, maybe 30 minutes of work a week to collect the goods and reset your week-long passive jobs.

True - I may consider this - it's a point though that we may be going to a WH and I don't believe the planets do PI there - at least last I looked.

Main has PI but I have never setup any colonies simply because it was cheap to get what I needed from the market for the very little I use of PI materials, mainly I do blueprints for the time being while doing other things, preparation for down the road, so all my slots are ME or TE now, have done some T2 BPC stuff just to test invention, but put that on hold for now while I perfect the BPOs and while I wait for the revamp.

I did however factor in Production slots also, so that got put into the queue also, mainly I hope to have it all setup on a 30D time frame. Will see.

Planets in W-space have PI and customs offices. PI in W-space is about equivalent to null sec PI. Alot more resources than High sec planets
