I like this idea of player generated lore, even tho all factions will eventually get their hands on the new tech.
So, how about some speculations about what the change will be. I'd like to see T3 frigs or maybe even T3 industrial ships, but doubt that it will be anything that drastic. Maybe rebalance of t3's with a touch of new subsystems?

*attempts to establish the latest lore time line...

I might have forgotten some aspects:

- Concord is losing its control as the Empires get weaker and weaker as they crank out more pod pilots.

- Pod pilots went from relying upon camera drones for everything to having a momentary first person view warping with star gates. Afterwards, the camera drones are operational again.

- Concord of the Empires "fix" those pesky pod pilots by making them scan each and every system they enter no matter what ship they are using.

- Concord or the Empires threaten the pod pilots to leave various covert sites alone and don't touch the loot within.

- All capital ships were sabotaged to jump a maximum of five light years while the pod pilot within is worn out. No answers about the rest of his or her crew is experiencing.

- The Empires are suddenly interested in items from worm holes when said worm holes have been pillaged for years now.

Again, I am pretty sure I forgotten some points...

No matter what kind of reward there is, if this event motivates 500 players to make their first trip into w-space it will be a win-win.
Content for the w-space inhabitants for a week + as long as those players stay... if they feel like settle down or don't know how to get out...
New horizons for players who never have been to a wormhole and get motivated to try it now.
Win-win.

(can we have an official "help me out of this wormhole!" chatchannel? Ah, forgot you hate chatchannels, nevermind).

I rarely read the EVE lore, but this sounds very interesting.

However, I can also understand the sentiment of other players. As each faction will receive the new technology eventually, and I would assume that as soon as it is released, that all players will be able to use it, beyond RP value for an unknown item, I don't know if it would be worth it.

Now... if I would receive a "Concord Issue Damage Control Unit" per 100 points donated, that may be a little more fun Lol

If the forum is any indication, it appears that whoever delivers the first 10 items will be rewarded Roll

That´s an excellent way of starting to ifluence the story CCP, clear objectives, ingame memory, and actually player effort involved. Kudos.

As mentioned before, is it possible that Corporations are also contestants instead of individual players? This would open room for a more organized effort and expectancy of achievment.

And yes, there will be people that will simply buy everything n the market and contract to the NPC, that´s as much effort as the ones that go into W-Space and pew pew their way. Everyone complaining so far just want to reduce the competition Lol

Looking foward for the results, hope the Caldari lead the way!

Keep up with the RP events, the lore community need some <3

Some people have been expressing that they don't feel any desire to donate since they won't be the biggest donor for their faction. That's absolutely fine and we do not expect this event to appeal to everyone.

This event is primarily aimed at those people who want to support their chosen faction and win the collective goal of getting their race first shot at the new tech. The honorary commissions are a secondary prize that is simply intended to give really big donors something extra to shoot for.

So basically this is a case study on how not to do cluster wide events?

If you wanted to do a cluster wide event the previous one rewarding players geckos was the correct way to do it.

I was just telling someone this weekend how we had the Jovian body part collection event waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day.

More importantly:

What is the time delay between the first empire getting this new technology and the second? ...the last?

We need to know more about the reward if we're going to decide it's worth the risk, or the isk (side note, i just realized 3/4ths of risk is isk) to "donate" to an empire.

When you say the Empire gets the tech first, is this going to be something in the FW LP stores? All their Stations? A new ship? A new module? We neeeeeeeeeeeeeeed mooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeee innnnnnnnnnnnnnnnfffffffffffoooooooooo!

If you care for your faction, you won´t bother with "risk". And as people mentioned before, eventualy the tech will be spread and you´ll get your hands into it, so if you care about the advancement of knowledge, you better open your wallet, just ike in RL.

You remember the space race? National pride was the fuel, tech was a consequence.

The question is, is this for new subsystems for a rebalance or do we get new t3 ships like frigates, destroyers, battlecruisers or battleships?

Who knows?

Applied science only come after basic research. That´s why you FUND IT.

II. NASA's Influence on the U.S. Economy

Analyses of the macroeconomic effects of the U.S. space program attempt to identify and measure that portion of economic growth attributable to technological progress. A Midwest Research Institute (MRI) study of the relationship between R&D expenditures and technology-induced increases in GNP indicated that each dollar spent on R&D returns an average of slightly over seven dollars in GNP over an eighteen-year period following the expenditure (3). Assuming that NASA's R&D expenditures produce the same economic payoff as the average R&D expenditure, MRI concluded that the $25 billion (1958) spent on civilian space R&D during the 1959-69 period returned $52 billion through 1970 and will continue to stimulate benefits through 1987, for a total gain of $181 billion.

To those who weren´t around at the time, the Crielere project was a joint Caldari-Gallente project to advance technology in a revolutionary way, and while it lasted, it did (That´s where we got Cloaking dvices from)

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Crielere

The Crielere Research Laboratories were a joint scientific endeavor between the Caldari State and Gallente Federation. The project was founded by Henric Touvolle and Taromi Umailen with heavy involvement from Duvolle Laboratories and Ishukone Corporation. During its short existence, it was responsible for several important scientific breakthroughs and was the center of massive controversy.

Crielere was the first to recognize the manufacturing potential of Morphite. Otro Gariushi, CEO of Ishukone, pledged that the technology would be freely available to anyone who wanted it.

This time we the players are pushing the strings with our collective funding, who knows what the results will be?

The faction that get to it first Blink

tl;dr - Let's beat them to the punch. If anyone else (I didn't read up, I have to leave for work soon) is also jumping on this, let's get in touch and coordinate.

The problem, massive as it is, with this and your NASA analogy is that it doesn't really line up with the game world.

In the real world, we research not knowing what the result will be or if it is even possible to do what we want. It is a risky investment that could result in zero gains.

In this case, we know the new tech is coming. Not only that, but we know the tech will be available to everyone. There could be literally one person who donates only "1 point" of material, and the end result will still be the same (hell, it would probably come out if zero people participated in the research event). The game will get the new tech, and it will be available to everyone.
You could (through epic wizardry) convince the entire CFC to spend every isk they have on these donation items. They could send every pilot to WH space to farm them as much and as fast as possible. And in the end, the result will be the same.

The blog says the winning empire will get the new tech "first", but it doesn't elaborate. There's no incentive to be first if second is only a day later. And even if the tech doesn't show up in ______insert empire/LP store/NPC station here______ for weeks, there's nothing stopping people from going to the winning empire's area and getting the tech for yourself. There are no technology embargoes like real life, there's no in-game penalty for corporate espionage, there is nothing stopping the other 3 empires from getting the tech moments after it is deployed to the game during downtime on the first day.

So again, CCP needs to give more details for it to even be worthwhile to donate. Unless your only goal is to have something in the game with your name on it, then by all means, donate to your heart's content.
