Surprised no one has posted this yet. The U.S. Navy, seeking to prevent another U.S.S. Cole incident, has been looking into autonomous defense boats for this purpose and the technology is here.

Yes, because EVE is defined by drone boats.

But really, I actually just kind of assumed this sort of thing already existed. The speed at which technology is developing at this point has almost made me immune to being fascinated by it. Kind of sad, really.

And there I thought you were talking about a new kind of aircraft carrier that almost exclusively launched armed drones from high speed launch tubes, so the drone guidance center is located more closely to the deployment site to lessen the drones response times...

For drones to be Eve realistic, the military are going to have to figure out how to model the synaptic patterns of Felis Catus and put it in control.
