So what's up with th Proteus?

Lately, I have gotten back to my Gallente roots after spending most of my time flying anything but Gallente.
I used to love flying T3's like the Legion and of course the Tengu. So I decided to train up for the Proteus after really enjoying the Ishtar, Myrm and Dominix.

I play solo these days because of very limited game time due to real life being very busy so mostly its PVE for me.

But what is the best way to fly the Proteus for PVE? I was thinking of doing some covert null sec sites like I used to do with the Tengu but I'm not very confident with rails lack of tracking or having to be so close with Blasters.

Any tips on putting this ship to good use? Is it worth the isk these days?

Thanks in advance!

Mediums railguns are quite accurate... especially when you use them at the edge of the optimal range. And there are Proteus configurations that can deal almost as much damage with railguns as with blasters.

However... the Proteus is not particularly good (IMO of course) at PvE. Not when compared to the Tengu at least.

In PvP though it is a goddamn beast.

Generic PvP Proteus, 300dps omni tank, 880dps to 24+30km with antimatter, can hit out to lock range (109km) with spike. You can switch the hardeners depending on the rats you're fighting as well as add a cloaking/nullify/scan subs and mods to cargo for low/null work. This should be able to handle all the Guristas DEDs (maybe even a 10/10, untested, but definitely an 8/10) and also should easily handle Serpentis/Blood Raiders sites, Angels will be a little rough but doable.

Do you want to use the best Gallente ship for the job? Or are you determined to use the Proteus regardless?

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

That's probably true, you can get around 900dps tank on that fit with a Guristas specific setup and some minor pimpage and I've done the 10/10 in a Tengu with similar tank, but never solo, minimum 2 people.

I honestly wanted to use the Proteus... I like the versatility of the t3's...especially with the mobile depots. I'm just trying to love it like I loved the Tengu.

😊

o/ Sindjin

I used a fairly pimp rail Proteus for a long time. It was second best to the Tengu.
Solo, you need range to evade DPS.

The downfall was neut sites. Turned off the guns and that lead to more warp outs.
I had a cap recharge setup, or a cap booster set up.

The upside was a flight of ECM drones in the bay. I could be a little more ballsy and stay in sites.
