DDos the result of other events?

Many have experienced increased spurious disconnects in the past two weeks (myself included).

Are these apparent DDoS attacks a manifestation of "every action a consequence"? I honestly don't know, but I do find the timing interesting...

Feyd, lots of love and all that, but this is going to get locked at warp speed.

I don't think there's any connection to anything.

Posting this now, to gather people who are angry about the extended downtime?

You're just risking getting permabanned too...
... which isn't helpfull at all....

Imagine CCP simply went on a widespread banning spree ...
... locking out everyone who even remotely seems to try to hurt them.

Victim blaming and click baiting. Never stop, Feyd.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive, and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

11. Discussion of warnings and bans is prohibited.

Such matters shall remain private between CCP and the involved user. Questions or comments concerning warnings and bans will be conveyed through email or private messaging. CCP respect the right of our players to privacy and as such you are not permitted to publicize private correspondence (including support ticket responses and emails) received from any member of CCP staff.

23. Post constructively.

Negative feedback can be very useful to further improve EVE Online provided that it is presented in a civil and factual manner. All users are encouraged to honestly express their feelings regarding EVE Online and how it can be improved. Posts that are non-constructive, insulting or in breach of the rules will be deleted regardless of how valid the ideas behind them may be. Users are also reminded that posting with a lack of content also constitutes non-constructive posting.

32. Rumor mongering is prohibited.

Rumor threads and posts which are based off no actual solid information and are designed to either troll or annoy other users will be locked and removed. These kinds of threads and posts are detrimental to the wellbeing and spirit of the EVE Online Community, and can create undue panic among forum users, as well as adding to the workload of our moderators.

So, there is no correlation with the timing of the recent swath of disconnects, with other events in your view?

Well, you'd have to show what event you think the DDoS attacks are correlated with.

I doubt it.

The guys doing this are also doing it to every Blizzard game, Destiny, Guns of Icarus, Steam, and half a dozen odd other things. They're far too indiscriminate for this to be targeted due to a specific reason.

Imagine the sh*t storm happening if CCP reverted on those actions and decisions to avert more ddos attacks(if that's the case for them).
If CCP gave in then everyone and their grandma would ddos until they got their way with whatever issue they had.

I actually wasn't aware others were getting zapped. Thanks for the correction.

I pointed out some time that the first DDOS in the last months was at the time of
the last big swoop of permabans on the 10th of September.

Like... literally when people realised they got permabanned.

I asked people here or ingame about the last attack before that, but got no response.

Who knows? Plenty of people have pointed to Somer, but look at all the borderline deranged people who shoot the Jita monument, or spend countless hours building pointless whine structures out of depots. Any of them could be irrational enough for it.

It could just be the old staple of DDOS: blackmail. All online services that require very high uptime %s get hit by that sooner or later - gambling or online gaming are particularly vulnerable to this (I have some experience of the former, a previous company I worked for had near constant attacks and demands for money). The DDOS episodes are also especially timed for Eve's peak hours, 1900-2100, which maybe points to this.

Not even going to lie, them doing it to Destiny bothers me more than to EVE. Bungie *can* handle it, for the most part, but it happens at inopportune times.

Was doing a nightfall, had gotten a ridiculously good drop, and poof, disconnect. No loot. I damn near cried.

Yes there is the original group called LizardSquad is still alive and went from "WOO LOOK AT US CRASHING GAMES WITH STREAMERS" to full-on tinfoil of "GAMING COMPANIES ARE EVIL AND NEED TO BE DESTROYED".

So in essence, they became Gevlon Goblin except the target is companies and not an alliance.

So is it that DDoS defense appliances don't work, or these gaming companies just aren't using them?

I would be interested to hear what CCP is doing to pro-actively engage a defense against these service interruptions, and if they at least have said appliances...
