as a 2003 eve player i remember ALOT of things that they took out or redid :c and alot of it was for the worst

such as the sun effects where you could actually see the suns corona creating arches, ship trails also looked prettier and not the glas clone that it looks like now most of what you guys already explained, mining drones that used to actually land on the rocks to mine, drone tails used to move, the mining drones legs used to fold inword a bit while traveling in space

Computer limitations perhaps? I mean i want to see all these fancy things too but sometimes i'm just happy i get to see engine trails at all considering nicking up anything graphical on my computer would cause it to burn into flames.

That and to a degree it was pretty distracting. I remember going on a frigate roam through goonswarm space and I ended up 11 jumps behind the group because i stopped to stare at the scenery in one of the systems.

But still, +1 because i'd love to fly through the pillars of a nebulae TITAN A.E. style that breaks the scope of imagination with its sheer size.

Some or most of older eve graphics were amazing. The first time I saw a cyno for a jump into null left me speechless. So many thing have been removed or simplified. The games got ugly and flat. With all the improvements and advances in graphics cards. With increased speed of cpu's.With much faster internet access. Why is eve getting downgraded. With all the pretty **** removed it ought to run at the speed of light.Bloatware has taken over now.Effing game still doesn't run right now.It used to a couple of years ago.
I'm now going to go and sit quietly on a corner and weep. Sad

I remember the environment with huuuuge, green tornadoes or something like that, it was completely out of place in a space game, I could only assume that some dev had bad LSD trip.

Are you talking about that one mission where one gets killed when he spends too much time in it?

It *was* completely out of place, but it looked freaking AWESOME!

Totally. It REALLY conveyed the mood of a "end of the world" irriediably corrupted waste.

I miss the old stuff, and I never even got to see it Sad
Thx for the pics OP! Big smile

I got into Eve cause I always loved looking up at stars and wondered what it be like to actually see them from space. Out in the country where I live you lose count at thousands. Can even see the webs of the galaxies, and the meteor showers during the lunar eclipse were stellar.

Maybe it could be a game setting, set graphics option to "freakin awesome" (instead of "pew-pew faster"). Can always it change back.

I do like the look of some of the planets and moons, big thanks to ccp for spending some time on those.

Did you miss the awesome animate log in screens too?

They were so awesome I couldn't stop looking at some of them. They also came with nice music.
I even watched them with 3D googles (switching EvE to 3D) and they looked even more awesome.

EvE for me started fading down the day they changed ammo names to generic dumbed down garbage.

What's good to have a DirectX 11 game that has nice shaders etc. but it's less awe inspiring than Trinity?
Plus Trinity ran on my centuries old NETBOOK and looked cool on it.
This one looks less epic on my super-latest-extra nVidia card. Cry

I remember showing my friend EVE. He killed the first structure, and as soon as it disappeared and left a tiny little puff of smoke in its place he closed the client. I still can't convince him to play. He complained that the atmosphere felt like a cut rate, low budget game. Also, the pathetic explosions we have now need to go. +1 for big explosions and different stations.

No, old EvE worked on absurdly crappy computers. In 2008, on my main PC I could run 6-8 clients at maximum details and frame rate. Now I have upgraded the PC through the years yet I can't run more than 3 clients now else it turns bad.

What happened then?

It happened that CCP started to care a TON to super-mega-huge null sec blob corps. And to simpletons who can't type: "Arbalest".

They can't do a smooth 2000 vs 2000? Then they pressure CCP till they streamline the game so that it runs for them. Result: a lot of tiny details that made EvE unique but slower in big numbers get lost in the process.

Yet this is not unique to EvE. I play several MMOs. Expecially since the birth of the "console generation" MMOs and even single player games have been turned to dumb, flashy-yet-boring-and-plain games that may be played by a lobotomized monkey with just one hand. It's saddening to see that EvE, too, is going that way. Slowly, yes. But surely.

You remember the old AOE doomsdays? I always thought if a titan died now it should go out with the spectacular old DD explosion.

You know

Amarr - Bright white light then nothing
Gallente - Black hole of doom
Minmatar - all the ammunition blows up
Caldari - lightning bolts!
