Have you ever accidentally sent ISK away to a character you don't know, or who would never send it back if asked?
Looking to hear some sob stories to feel better about myself.

I just accidentally sent 800 million ISK to a character 2 letters different than an alt I had just created. It seems the servers don't update new characters immediately, so when I searched my characters name only one result came up - which I assumed to be mine and quickly sent the ISK without thinking much about it.

There are no accidents, only lessons not yet learned.

I always triple check every detail of every transaction made and manually type the correct recipient name to avoid these sort of issues.

Nope.

Next time send a mail from that new char to your main one, then you can open that mail and rightclick the sender to send cash.

Once, 4 years ago I loaned someone 200 mil (at that time a HUGE amount for a new player), after months, I settled with the thought that I likely would never see it back.

Fast forward 3.5 years from that point, I log in to see that my wallet has grown with nearly 600 mil, which confused me.
So I looked and saw that said person paid me back and with interest (the thing he needed 200mil for at that time was now worth nearly 600mil and thus he refunded me that amount).

This...

Or add your main on your alt's contact list and sent notification that you did, this way you can right click the name in your contact notifications.

No, but I have been on the other end of it. Someone sent me a couple hundred million accidentally. Yes, I sent it back.

Send ISK via contact list.
Open trade windows at the receiving end.
Get names in contracts right first time, and never type them again.

No, but I have given isk to a few needy players. Just small amounts that won't hurt me but help them.

Everytime you read this you are required to send 100 million isk directly to me.

I always add my alts as contacts. Then I just send them whatever from the contact page. No more searching

The point is that if you create a new char the name won't show up in a search, you literally get a "does not exist" and it'll take quite a bit for that to update.

So the only way to send isk, contract, fleet invite or open convo is to have a "clickable name link" of that new char, and the one of the few ways to do that is to send a mail rom said new character or, as J'poll suggested, set standing with notification on that new char.

Or you could enter a private channel with your new alt and send money that way. If you are dumb enough to send money to the wrong character because you didn't double check their information that is your own dumbbutt fault.

I don't recall a delay when typing the name and rightclicking it as Character, but ...
... as soon as a new char is created, it's on evegate.

You log that char in on http://gate.eveonline.com,
add the main as character + notification ... done.
  • All incoming connection attempts are being blocked. If you want to speak to me you will find me either in Hek local, you can create a contract or make a thread about it in General Discussions. I will call you back. -

I'm an altoholic, if CCP would ever check the # of accounts made on this and my other email addresses they'd probably get a heart attack :) (in fact, I made 2 new alts last night). New chars don't show up for a while. Also Spank's idea is actually quite good.

Nothing of the sort on my end, though I did enter the wrong amount of zeroes a few times. As a general rule, I put most of my isk in the corp wallet, so I can't spend billions by mistake - and for corp transactions I usually spend a lot more time checking everything is in order.

The correct way to spell your alt's name is "William Ruben" That is Ruben with an E not an I.
