Fixed that for you. ^_^

Sometimes I feel like ... how I started playing this game ...
... must be considered as completely impossible by way too many people nowadays.

I guess after playing silly cookie-cutter MMO's for years everything seems hard.

It really isn't hard. Wait until you start mining or running incursions, then you'll see what 'hard' is.

it's been a year since I've done them, but I completed them all by myself without difficulty. These aren't wow quests where you can just hit "accept" and go kill 10 things. You do have to read them.

I did the tutorial back in 2004, and then i rand it again like last year for ***** n giggles. And i was disapointed at how bloody easy the tutorial is now compared to 04.

IIRC the 04 tutorial was:

Welcome to eve! you are ship! See that red cross? Shoot it!

See that wreck? Loot it!

See that rock? Mine it!

See that thing there? thats a station Dock!

Ok you are all done, here is an agent to get you started... good luck!

Aurora out.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Tutorials are terrible anyway, the devs are right to dump them. Last time I rolled a completely seperate alt I went though all those starter missions and things to get the 'easy' ISK, ended up quitting (the alt, not the game).

In my day the most efficient thing to do when you started was whatever the heck you wanted, because all the tutorial gave you was this.

some People have difficulty...which seems alien to vets ... with all sorts of things .. but i dont think the majority of people do .. just some people. I dont know, but i would assume they either have never played an mmo or many spaced based rpg's or rpg's in general or after years of theme park MMOs are looking for more a tutorial which goes through everything step by step ... click here (here is circled in red), then click here and then here and then here and see this thing over here ( being pointed out by a big green arrow bouncing in space) sorta tutorial.

seen people not know how to switch ships, fit moduals, unfit moduals, mine, find their original station, find their assets, find assets or moduals in other ships etc, not see stuff due to overview being "wrong", picking the wrong ship or modual for a mission, not understand anything about skills, ... and if any of these things are part of the mission its "game over'.

History is the study of change.

You summarised why I stopped playing any new games for many years.

As a new player having done the tutorial six weeks ago, I would say that it largely did a good job. I may have got stuck a couple of times but google got me out of the jam easy enough. That said, I am smarter than the average bear, so I am not sure how the bears are coping.

NPE does need to do a better job introducing PvP.

The only way to learn combat is to do combat.

The earlier, the better.

Dammit, ninja'd.

I remember the tutorial, way back when on my 1st of about 5 trails, basically consisting of "here's your ship, there's a rat, try not to explode".

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

He was doing it right.

Btw ... I kind of wonder.
Isn't CCP Veritas leaving?

He brings us arenas ... and leaves the company.

I am confuserated ....

Maybe something strange (I mean something really strange, not just strange like a Incursion Fleet full of billion isk hulls with crappy Meta 4 Gunz) is going on with the Tutorials in the past few weeks. Never heard so many desperate calls for help or complains about the Tutorials since I play this game.

EVE has sound tutorials? Shocked

[Pre-Apocrypha character here. The tutorials were introduced in Apocrypha.]

I do think the tutorials need work. They are probably much too wordy when they don't need to be, causing new players to miss the really important details in the walls-of-text.

I figured-out how to warp away to a station (but not bookmark my location first) because I wasn't going to shoot anything until I knew what the consequences were.

As I could never return to that initial location with the rat, thus ended the "tutorial" for me.

I subscribed for a year an hour after my first login. That was 2009.

In my experience the number one problem people had with the tutorials was refusing to read.

In particular one of the career agents gave a mission where it was explicitly stated to be a suicide run, and he even gave you a brand new free ship to do it with. But of course they hadn't bothered to read it, and were very angry when they died "with no warning at all wtf CCP" Roll

Even if the tutorials were improved this type of player wouldn't stay with the game past their first encounter with contract scams.
