Ok... so, I finally found a solution that works, without turning off my proxy server.

If you use pfSense firewall, and run Squid3 proxy server, I recommend you take the following steps if you are finding that your Eve Launcher hangs when trying to patch (Windows).

Caveats: I'm using Squid3-dev version; I have Transparent Proxy enabled

1. Login to pfSense admin page
2. Navigate to Services > Proxy Server (pfSense 2.1.5)
3. Click General tab
4. Scroll down to "Transparent Proxy Settings"
5. On line for "Bypass proxy for these destination IPs" enter: EveOnline.com;cdn1.EveOnline.com
6. Click Save button
