For a relatively low skilled alt (not this character) looking primarily for fun and good fights. What are the factors to look at? Does it even matter which is chosen? What sets the factions apart?

Find the faction with the least players and join it. Also the one with the least systems is usually going to be more fun as well.

look at the FW corps that are recruiting and find one that main focus is PVP. And you cant go by player count since many players are farmers only.

If you stick with it long enough, faction doesn't really matter. Whichever faction is on the upswing right now will eventually be on the downswing. If you want to be less scummy, join whichever faction is at the lowest point currently. Much as people talk **** about one side or the other, you'll find good corps and decent people whether you join the frogs, squids, slavers or rustbucket enthusiasts.

if you're looking for a nice PvP environment I suggest you choose the faction with more of a PvP/playerbase vision. Unless you have a very personal affection for a certain Faction, look for a good active PvP corp. You can always adjust in your run for the right one once you understand which is the warzone you prefer.

but here's a tip none the less: gallente are best at everything. Pop us a mail if you'd like to have a chat about it Smile

I'd pick somewhere in the Cal/Gal warzone. I've heard too many bad things about the Min/Amarr warzone for solo fights (lots of linked pilots) up to large fleet battles (getting dropped on constantly)

Simply choose the faction that stands for the more noble of goals.

Of course things means the 24th Imperial Crusade, we do God's work..... and really who can argue with that?Big smile

If you want to roleplay a fascist, then join Caldari.
If you want to roleplay a religious fanatic terrorist then join Amarr.
If you want to roleplay a former slave then join Minmatar.
If you want to roleplay liberty and free love (with the best exotic dancers in the universe), then join Gallente.

You join Amarr and be happy ever after.

Money wise - depends how bad you need the money and how old your character is. If you have the skills for doing L4 FW missions and have time to grind the standings fast you need to join the faction that has high (or even better - rising) tier so you can capitalize on L4 missions when your standing is high enough already. If you're a newb you want to join the militia that is on weak tier III or tier II so you can earn stuff plexing since you cannot even dream to do L4 missions and need to earn somehow (plexes pay best to newbs when you defend high contested system near your home - low tier will generally help you with that). When your militia has low tier your LPs are also worth more so it will help you with relatively lower income the plexes give compared to missions.

Other than that - join Amarr and be happy ever after. Seriously.

I took a quick look at numbers, then joined Amarr.
Least number of pilots and at the time systems... (Excluding the Caldari who had 0, but good numbers....)

So I fly Amarr, holding back the tide of liberty sponsored terrorists trying to destroy the stability of a kind people!

Terrorist?

Really?

Take the Empire is the most stable region of Empire space. If we're talking terrorists lets talk Dragonaurs or Bloody Hands of Matar.

If you are a spy or just a bit crap, join caldari
If you think aviators and platform shoes are the height of fashion, join gallente
If you have shards of glass in your forehead due to a failed experiment into the taste of windex, join amarr
Otherwise, join minmatar.

I assigned each faction a number on a D3 die. I then rolled a D3 die and got Gallente.

The linked solo pilots are mostly a problem in Metro, but in The Bleak Lands there are a lot of small gangs running around which leads to very fair duels with tacklers.

It's actually kind of nice that hotdrops are a concern because it has a chilling effect on larger fleets loitering and it's so tedious to try and catch a fleet that has been sitting in the same spot for hours doing nothing but watching local and dscan while aligned.

The only major problem IME is that BC->BS groups of any size are preyed on by BlOps drops, which is really a shame when you need the power of a HAC but don't want to risk a HAC on a situation that could go either way.

It's really simple.

If you want cash: join Farmatar and run missions.
If you want PvP: Join Galmil and die broke but laughing.
If you want to watch a series of ongoing leadership fail cascades from the inside: Join Amarr militia.
