a lot of people (op included) just dont get how it works, shorter release cycle wont means that they only have smaller projects, just that while the guys working on longer-term projects strife onward, the guys working on all those small quality of life and easy done fixes can release them when they are ready, without waiting for the bigger stuff.

Oh dear fool. I do understand. I am just saying that what I have seen so far has not been terribly interesting to me and that that situation may change.

so what, in your line of work how often do you do the ultra-showy stuff and how often the regular, day-by-day maintenance stuff?

So far I like the release schedule. But I will reserve my final judgement at the year mark to see if we really got more out of it.

So far I'm pretty pleased. Like many other people (I think), I'm waiting to see where we are six months out to see if there's a noticeable improvement in the game. But I have to say, thus far, I'm both pleasantly surpirsed and optimistic about the future.

I like the smaller releases because it allows CCP to make incremental changes at a reasonable pace. This lowers the likelihood of them NGEing us (poor SWG fans) which I'm concerned about because several core gameplay mechanics could use tweaks.

No complaints at all about theschedule

High sec: That's the tutorial. Null Sec is the actual game. Wormholes? Even CCP isn't sure.

6 months or 6 weeeks, I read over the dev blogs lightly and go on the test server occasionally to see what is being worked on. Other than that I log in to play the game and let the devs do their job.

Actually, when it comes to people complaining about free patches, I prefer:

I really like the new style 'smaller releases'

My only concern would be if the patches from each release were keep rolling over and accumulating from small release to small release.

Even if one has no real interest in a particular small release, another one will be along shortly.

This is not a signature.

It helps them make more money,
which is a good thing,
as long as they keep releasing new things people can buy.

It also gets people easier hooked and caters to shorter attention spans,
which also means more money in the long run.

This is a great thing for the game to have more agile releases.

I am certainly curious to see how they will handle the SOV changes in that new model, but as a customer I do like having some new stuff regularly, even when some of them are not specially relevant to me.

I'm liking the format of the updates, and i'm interested to see what they'll be updating in the future. I'm not a big industry user, but I liked the fact they got rid of the extra materials and such. I just hope that industry and WHs aren't the primary focus of updates this year, but that's just my opinion.

They probably won't be.

Well, I just try to firmly keep in mind that what has been released so far under the new system would NOT be underwhelming in the old release schedule.... it would be non-existent. You'd be waiting several more months for things we already have.

As to the person asking if there were even going to be any more large releases, the answer would be yes, of course. There is only so much that can be done in an incremental fashion.

For example the upcoming sov rework. There will be several smaller steps made at first, and those will be tweaked a bit for usability before anything else happens... but eventually the main part of the new Sov system will have to be released at one go. You get to a point where too many other inter-related systems would be affected to consider NOT releasing the core of the change all at once.

The good part is that if the big bits aren't ready at a particular deadline, we only have to wait a few weeks for another release... instead of needing to wait 6 months for something that was 2 weeks behind schedule.

Agreed, but you have to admit these industry changes are a LOOOONG time overdue. I think the action junkies among us can afford to be patient for a few months and let industry catch up with the rest of the game a bit.

That's what is amusing to me.

CCP must have finally hired some decent PR/marketing people who have managed to convince people that "We're going to continue patching the game to make needed improvements" is actually some revolutionary change in game direction by calling them 'releases' and giving them special names.

The "release schedule" ie, the patch schedule, should be completely unrelated to actual expansions and significant changes to game story/play.

True. I mean, I completely understand that there's a little corner of EVE for everyone, may it be industry, PI, WHs, exploration; and obviously, every aspect that players enjoy needs some attention at some point. I'm just hoping they continue to put a few little extra updates aside from industry in there too. For example, i'd absolutely love to see the NPC Convoy system updated in some way, to make it worth doing again.

I think it's great, I hated waiting 6 months for new stuffs. There's always something for me to read and keep up to date with now. I find it nice and refreshing seeing things come along more often, even if they are not parts of the game or content I directly participate in. They usually still have some indirect impact of my gameplay so it's all good no matter the content of the updates.

I pew you too! <3
