ok when i first started playing back in 2007-2008 there was some information going around about a fleet of sb killing a super with cruise missiles after the ransom got denied one of the main reason it was changed to just torps

and Also I think i read a about battle ships fitting bomb launchers and owning and also causing it to move to only sb

any one got any information on these two events?

Sounds like BS. As far as I can think of, there would be no reason to use cruise missiles on a Stealth bomber, it's less DPS and they already get good range out of torps.

I've definantly seen/heard of a dread getting killed by stealth bombers, but don't know about a Super.

As for the bombs on a BS, I wouldn't be surprised, there where a lot of things CCP didn't think of that had to get fixed (stacking MWD's)

From what I understand, back in the day Stealth Bombers could not use Covert-Ops cloaks (they used regular cloaks like Black-Ops) and were cruise missile slingers.

Just an FYI. Blink

I am not entirely sure about this one. And my Google-fu is not showing much either.

I am going to call bullcrap on this one.

Though... there was a time where "stacking penalties" did not exist in the game. It was entirely possible to fit up an Armageddon with nothing but Heat Sinks (it was a laserboat at the time) and just fire off a volley every half second or so. Basically it would nuke anything in range.
Then "stacking penalties" were introduced.

Shah is correct. The old stealth bombers were bonused for cruise missiles and not torps. Also, they got a bonus to speed while cloaked, but could not use a cov ops cloak.

As far as the killing of a super by bombers somehow causing a switch to torps, that is not what happened iirc. The swich to torps went hand in hand with the switch to the fitting of cov ops cloaks. Torps were deemed more suited to the bomber role as a space submarine. Less range and damage meant for large targets. The cov ops cloak was given due to the decrease in range. Basically making these ships a sneak up close(r) and launch bombs or torps at BC and BS. Also, again iirc, there were changes made to missiles in general at the time bombers were switched over to torps.

I vaguely recall a lark stunt in nullsec of killing a mothership with bombs from bombers. Probably was goons and/or pl but can't remember. Anyway, the change to torps was not in response to some perceived op status on the former cruise and non cov ops bombers.

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

Also confirming that Stealth Bombers used to be cruise missile boats. I first hopped into them just before the transition, and I have to say I much prefer their current form.

+1, if i remember they used to be able to hit out to about 90-100km but their damage was terrible compared with torps are now on a frigate sized hull.
